I recently purchased the start'09 version and had been using arch 12 for students. I cannot open previous drawings in my new software.

That is as it should be. This is done so professionals cannot use the free student version.

Do a search here, there was some discussion about this problem, perhaps some work around.

Thanks so much for the link Peter. This is very disconcerting because my dealership siad the basic difference between arch 12 and start o9 was the lack of teamwork. I now see that there are many more differences like curtain walls, curved walls, etc.
