If you just turn on/off layers, you create a view with the layer combination of "Custom" which is difficult to impossible to ever error-check, particularly using a view index (you would see a lot of 'custom' and not know if any of them were the correct layers).<BR /> <BR /> Ideally, you should create a layer combination corresponding to those on/off layers and associate that with your view.<BR /> <BR /> Assuming you have server rights to create new views, I'm not sure why you would see the commit error.
