Please do me a favor: delete all log files, wait until the error occurs again and upload the newly generated log file. I will have a look on them and will see if I can solve the mystery.

here is a small sampling of the t/w warnings I have been trouble shooting the past week. This feels like something is broken... or theres something else at play here (my tinfoil hat is on pretty tight right now). And these are about 1/4-1/2 of what I've been sent:

Despite your first picture I’ve never seen anything like that. Maybe a timing problem? Please check if the clocks are synchronized.

I've been going recently through the same rollercoaster of warnings, failed uploads and even couple of crashes in TW projects.

At first I was blaming our old version of BIMcloud Manager and server (we feared updating them due to recent news of updates causing problems). I even blamed the server itself - we keep the BIMcloud on a local machine.

But then, I thought that maybe I'll check my side one last time. I was sure at first that it couldn't be me, since I made sure to set up firewall correctly and everything ran smoothly before. But I found real surprise, that by some coincidence, in the Windows Firewall settings, all Archicad protocols (Application, Starter, BIMx Uploader etc.) had a rule to block connections. I'm not sure if it was caused by some recent software update (Windows or AC).

After allowing proper connections for each rule - problem dissapeared.

I can see you're working on macOS but maybe you can try confirming your security settings allow for AC to connect without issues. I kinda hope for you that here lies the problem because for me the solution was pretty simple.

I don't even know what that means. Are you saying if the clock on the computer hosting the bimcloud basic is not reporting the same time of day, it will not sync with local data on the AC side? That makes absolutely no sense; you can s/r from a different time zone, why would the applications on either side care what time it was when the s/r is made?

the server is hosted on a windows server; it could be. But I would expect an all-or-nothing block, not occasional, sometimes, for some people and not others issue. I am working with several firms, with several different server configurations; most have dealt with some level of t/w errors, snags, and crashes. My main client has nearly 60 people in Archicad every day, and they have at least 2-3 of these hang ups every week. Sorting out whose local data we keep, who loses work, who has to redo lost work, etc. is quickly becoming my main job for them.

Time zones make no difference to the computer as times should be provided with the relevant offset or as universal. Timestamp accuracy is extremely important in real-time applications and desyncs could be treated as a disconnection or a compromised connection. Teamwork is not real-time, but it might be treated the same way.

Hi,

From my expierence if I start to work with ADDING / REMOVING / EDITING atributes or expecialy layers, then there is high risk that inperfections apprears and files cannot be merged.

Just check if the clocks are syncronised. If they run in sync then everthing is fine. If not try to use a time-server.

Here is a little technical backround: presume the clock on your computer ist 5 minutes behind the server clock. The server receives a data package which from its point of view is five minutes in the past. In the meantime another user has send his changes to the server, which means that this new changes are newer than yours (from the perspective of the time stamps of the data packages). The server must reject your data because they are older than the existing ones.

so basically... any work in a project file? I have not worked on a single project in 20 years that did not require editing/adding/deleting attributes. especially the past 7-8 years dealing with the master_gdl.gsm surface pollution

We had a quite well functioning Bimcloud setup, but we needed to update our Windows server version to run 27 and 28 in teamwork. After we replaced our old Windows 2016 servers with new servers, rolled back our Bimcloud to new hardware and updated to the latest version of Bimcloud we have been in a nightmare of errors and bad performance. Same kinds of errors you have been experiencing, but no indication on the server of anything being a problem. Also worse performance than on the old server, even if the hardware is a lot faster and the server is barely using any resources. With these kinds of error messages it is also impossible to know where to start the troubleshooting.

any one at Graphisoft have any input on this? it's kind of ******* ridiculous. This is nearly a daily issue (some days there I get multiple questions about this). Looking through the forum, there are threads of the same problems; dozens of threads.
Its not like this is a "me" issue. Just one that we are all apparently ignoring and/or living with.

here's todays sampling. If nothing else, anyone have a suggestion of what I can tell my guys other than "yup, archicad sucks sometimes... gotta save a pln and redo your work"?

Patrick, have you contacted your local support? I think they are the ones who should be helping you get to the bottom of this issue.

Hi Patrick,

I just noticed this thread since you bumped it... and just want to confirm if your signature is correct that you are running macOS 11.5.2 rather than a more recent version... like 15.2?

And, I did not see where you said what flavor of BIMcloud you are using. If SaaS, then there should be no problem on that end. If self-hosted, what version and what OS is the server running? All BIMcloud and OS have had all available updates applied?

Does seem like an issue for local support, though, as Laszlo suggests.

Cheers,

Karl

Sorry to say that but without knowlege of your IT-Infrastructure no one can answer your questions or give you a proper hint for a solution.

what is your server hardware and software?

what other services are running on your server? On what ports?

What is the structure/topology of your network?

Is the hardware ok, especially the NIC? I ask because I had an issue with my own network data rates extremely dropping without any cause. In the end the thermal paste of the cooler was to old and after renewing it everything was fine again.

did you record the data traffic with Wire Shark? This is essential for any diagnosis!

Here is a sampling of todays glorious fails of archicad to perform the most basic function of saving people's work. Any word AT ALL from ANYONE at Graphisoft on getting a reliable platform for us? I mean, if my clients working on $50m projects are losing a day of billable work because entire teams have to redo their work, what is the incentive to stick with archicad? They could re-tool to Autodesk for less than the fee of one project... get this **** together!?!

or can anyone at least give me a suggestion on what may be going on here? this is 3 different offices, one with a full bimcloud license, two with bimcloud basic... nothing tricky like remote/vpn connections, just basic failed s/r ***t!

Torben,
I work with multiple offices. They ALL have these issues popping up. Most (not all) are Mac with a PC server. Most (not all) are on bimcloud basic. I can't give you a server hardware and software configuraiton, ports, etc. because they are all slightly differently configured. Given the range of firms, file sizes, configurations, etc... this is not a "me" issue. I'd like to think maybe this is something I'm not seeing, but I think the fact that I am working with so many firms using different configurations, all with in-house IT guys sorting through their end, this HAS to be a graphisoft shortcoming. It could be that smaller consultants and bim managers only working in a single office on a handful of projects don't have the bandwidth to see the sh**show that I'm up against. I recognize my position is unique in the community... but I'm at my wits end with this.

In our office of 35-40 regular archicad users, we get maybe 1 or 2 teamwork errors a month and they typically only happen after a local crash and local teamwork data corruption.

We run 4 Bimcloud basic servers for 23 and 26 and our two offices connected by a 1gbps WAN. All Bimcloud servers are running on a separate VMs running Windows server 2022. Our project sizes range from 1-10gb with up to 15-20 users on some projects.

I did have one user who would get frequent teamwork errors, persistent across multiple versions, servers, projects and machines. Never worked out why, the only thing I could work out was they might have been repeatedly sending and trying to release simultaneously.

Frustratingly the only real way to get to the bottom of things is to systematically log every error, export logs and create twpackage files for analysis. But this is incredibly 0ainful and time consuming.

I did have reports that railings and curtain walls in one file were causing tw issues many years ago.

Kicking out any user who hasn't been in the project recently and getting users to regularly reload project from server has become part of our regular work flows. I had been told that the tw server holds a cache on the server of the state of the file at the time of every users last connection. If you've got users who haven't been in the file for months, it's just wasting storage on the tw server.

I know this doesnt solve any of your issues, just my 2cents on our experience with tw being fairly stable with a largish office with large projects.
