As Chazz said, a subject like your original one "why???????????????????????????????" looks is not at all descriptive and some might even think it could be spam.

I've changed the subject of the thread o match your question. Try to use informative subjects in the future if you really want people to respond to your specific question...

The Sketch rendering engine will only use a single processor/core, while the LW engine can use multiple cores (when not on 'best' settings). Different kinds of analyses are performed by the Sketch engine, too - to display distant lines differently, etc.

Thanks,
You might do better with a more descriptive message topic. Clear message topics also aid searches for users with similar questions in future.

Sketch rendering is a very old and untouched aspect of the software and this may explain (poorly) some of it's sluggishness. While it is possible to get good results with it, using sketch rendering is frustrating not just because it is so slow to do tests but because it has a lot of sliders and options but no way to save the settings once you get the look you want. At least I never found a way to.

You may be able to speed up the rendering time by turning off all unnecessary layers that won't be required for the view. There are also some techniques that involve mashing up multiple renderings where you separate out static entourage and background elements on separate renderings.

While there is no obvious way to save setting it can be done. Once you've tweaked the settings to your liking, create a view and it will save the various adjustments you have made or you can edit the default settings from a text file.

See <LINK_TEXT text="http://archicad-talk.graphisoft.com/vie ... hp?t=23244">http://archicad-talk.graphisoft.com/viewtopic.php?t=23244</LINK_TEXT> and <LINK_TEXT text="http://www.archicadwiki.com/SketchRende ... Rendering)">http://www.archicadwiki.com/SketchRender?highlight=(Bugs)|(TechNotes)|(FrontPage)|(Category)|(CategoryRendering)</LINK_TEXT> for more info.

The sketch render may be a little slow but I've found that clients respond well to the loose hand drawn nature of the results. The results and also be mashed with with photo real renderings to create very nice composite images.
Also, what is you machine, that is huge? I us the sketch engine all the time, and what use to take 7 - 10 min is now 30 sec or so. Equipment matters.
