Nice.
I think the first image lets the side down though, the water + reeds don't look right. I like the cropping + angles you've used in the other shots, maybe a closer view of the building exterior, not from behind reeds. makes me feel like i'm a spy creeping out of the lake to attack the house.

Don't forget your SWAG bag, eh?

The interiors are beautiful, but are overly warm and softly lit. Can you get a little more shadow activity and a cascade of sunlight, perhaps?
Yes, it does seem that the view is from someone fishing in a boat. I never noticed that before.

Dwight, I have attached a rendering that I changed the time of day so the sun would come in the windows. It does make a difference knowing where
the light in the space is coming from. Do you not like the stone texture or
just the idea of that stone being in the space?
Your second batch of shots need more entourage I think. In the first shots things like the tea set on the table and the close cropping made the views inviting. The views of the foyer seem a little less personal. maybe a computer or guest book on the reception counter?
Still great images though, I'm jealous.

on the lobby renderings so I didn't spend as much quality time with them.
I have found Artlantis to be very easy to learn and the fast rendering times are nice. These images took from 10 to 30 minutes each.

Nice renderings Robert. To be honest there are not only the renders but the style of the house that give you that relaxing feeling( wood stone etch). I agree with you about Artlantis and Im very very happy with it.The only thing that annoys me is that has limits. You can get really good but still dont get the 3ds max + vray results that they can be really photoreal. If you dont have clients that need to see 'real pictures' as i mentioned on another topic then for me me its the BEST (value for money-time-results).I ve tried hard my self on a project Im working at the moment to get the best out of Arch 10 + Artlantis Studio and Im quite happy with the result.Have a look. That took me ages though playing with material attributes and lighting

The lighting is nice in the image. I have noticed it is also about having nice textures. I have spent a lot of time making my own or changing existing textures. Then again as you said the style of the space and picking that correct angle is very important. Looks great keep up the work.

nice example. You might want to cheat a bit and place some interior lighting. The sun alone is hardly enough to distribute nice light throughout.

I've just received the latest issue of 3D World magazine, with a special on Architectural Visualization included (sponsored by Autodesk). There is a Cinema4D tutorial for GI and a Mental Ray tutorial as well.

What interested me was that the Final Gathering in Mental Ray was at first splotchy, because the first light bounce could not find enough light. By simple adding an area light in the interior, it was helped tremendously:

I think this might apply for Artlantis: add some interior fill lights, even with low intensity, but with appropriate color, and help the Radiosity in Artlantis a bit in reaching all the corners.

Another very nice trick, which is not available in Artlantis, I'm afraid, is Ambient Occlusion: this effectively creates a greyscale image: dark in corners, bright in un-occluded places. This improves every interior rendering enourmously! I have this working in Cinema4D and in 3ds max, but it's available for many other applications as well.
