<R>Just think, the C4D 9.1 made AC look so slooooow. Now take a look at the movie below and see what r9.6 does on the same machine.

The demo is free and it allows everything except save. I created this from my AC 10 model. Rendered as 1600x1000 and did a screen capture.

It also has a very nice atmospheric package included, the sky, clouds and sun position work for world wide settings. I clicked the "here and now" and ended up with a sunny San Diego day with scattered clouds.

Check out the speed boost, it rips.
<LINK_TEXT text="http://www.maxon.net/pages/products/c4d ... rcomp.html">http://www.maxon.net/pages/products/c4d/movie_audirendercomp.html</LINK_TEXT>

Also view the movie about the new sky tool:

http://www.maxon.net/pages/products/c4d/movie_sky.html

My wish for the list is a collaboration between Maxon and GraphiSoft to include the C4D render engine in AC 10.1

Download the demo: http://www.maxon.net/</R>

I really like the C4d interface, but I got fed up with the clumsy export from Archicad......
Is the exchange plug in clean and straightforward these days burginger ?
Or do you have to do some tweeking etc
I've been playing with Artlantis R as well and I do like the interface - but there are limitations ....and bugs

Is it possible to export from Archicad and render in C4d without too much changing textures etc

Who is responsible for this plugin - Maxon or Graphisoft? I would have thought the latter - afterall this is just another document output format such as 3DS or DWG, all of which GS must write the translator for?

So what is the hold up? This plugin saves hours upon hours of unnecessary work reapplying materials, layer structures etc .... our animation/rendering guys are going to go nuts when they find out about this

There are two plugins for AC<->C4D communication.
I am not quite sure but it seems that plugin for rendering in C4D is made by Maxon.
Connection between Archicad and MaxonForm for modeling purposes and saving it as gsm file is made by GS.
>This product is compatible with:
>3ds max, 3DS VIZ, Accurender, Animatek World Builder, Art.lantis,
>AutoCAD, Autodesk Image Studio, Autodesk Studio Tools, Bryce 3D,
>Carrara, Cinema4D, Deep Paint 3D Electric, formZ, Houdini, LightWave3D,
>Maya, Poser, Realsoft 3D, Rhino, SketchUp, SOFTIMAGE|XSI, solidThinking,
>Strata3D CX, trueSpace (Caligari), VectorWorks, Visual Nature StudioVue
>(d´Esprit), World Construction Set.

This is a cut and paste from Evermotion, possibly the best firm on object modelling. As you can see, they list everything, including VectorWorks, except ArchiCAD. Graphisoft must open AC to other industry standards, because, let's face it, GDL did not make it.
Yes Maxonform plugin is GS outsourcing of a solution to Archicads modeling deficiencies. It switches to C4D with the AC modeled ghosted where you can model new or remodel existing elements using C4D's more complex modeling tools and it then brings everything modeled back into Archicad as a single .gsm object. No parametrics and good luck editing the object script to give it any - it is the object equivalent of a mesh. Anyway ...

C4D Exchange plugin is used for exporting the Archicad model to C4D for rendering, animations etc. It basically keeps track of all the AC exported elements and the materials/effects assigned to them. If you change the AC model, the C4D Exchange plugin automatically replaces the AC elements whilst maintaining all these materials, effects etc. The old .3DS method does not do this - if the AC model changes you need to redo everything. Needless to say the Exchange plugin is a massive time saver.

Now that i think about it again you are probably right and they are probably both done by Maxon - i think this has been said somewhere else too. Still I would really like to know who's court this is in and why the big holdup .... the v9 plugins work with 9.6 AFAIK, so any changes are really only on the AC side of things - and its not like they re-wrote the modeling engine in 10 now did they.

Not so worried about Maxonform as there are acceptable workarounds given the frequency of its use, but the Exchange plugin will be a big issue next time we have a big submission here. C4D guys will be looking for heads on sticks if it results in them doing unnecessary hours.
I wrote to Maxon to see if the schedule of release can be shared here.

(Note: Sep 25 06) I have been told that Maxon US has written to find out what the schedule is on ArchiCAD eXchange, they said that they are busy on a new release - of another Maxon product) I don't think it is related to eXchange, the other product is consuming all of their time right now. Maybe more news later.

Of coarse now I'm worried with C4D R10 out with very little for us ArchVis guys, we'll have to upgrade just to get the exchange plugin to work with ArchiCad R10 (if and when it gets released). How long has ArchiCad R10 been out now????
It's really becoming a worry with the poor support for AR, and the instability of FR2, I've been hanging out for the V-Ray bridge. If that doesn't happen soon I'll have to jump ship and try ArchiCad-Max-V-Ray.
Anyone else tried that route with suggestions. I mean it's only money;) but at least it would work!!
Plugins are a blessing and a disaster: they show a nice solution for a particular problem, you start to rely on them in one version of ArchiCAD and then... you have to hope, beg, pray that they will be supported in the next ArchiCAD version. And that this company will allow a free upgrade or a cheap one.

Let's see: there was this AxisVM plugin (still only AC 6.5 and AC 7). There was EON Fastview (AC 7.0 I think). And there are many others.

FWIW, MaxonForm works with AC10. But it's Cinema4D engine is not up to date. If Graphisoft doesn't keep up, this plugin will slowly fade out again, before it had a chance to grow.

(this problem happens in all software where plugins are made by external developers... so don't rely too much on them for your everyday work)

I thought someone from GS posted that here recently.

By the way, licensing the C4D Rendering engine into ArchiCAD? Maxon itself licensed the rendering engine FinalRender from Cebas to form the Advanced Render module in Cinema4D...

And I read in the review for C4D 10 that the Advanced Rendering Engine in 10 is not updated, apart from volumetric clouds being moved into this plugin. But C4D users who don't have XL, but only CORE + Advanced Render have to pay twice: upgrade of XL and upgrade of Advanced Render.

It is not easy to rely on different programs which all have a different development and release cycle: ArchiCAD, Cinema4D, MaxonForm etc...

I still believe the combination of ArchiCAD and Cinema4D is perfect (and cross-platform), but you have to be patient when one of the elements in this workflow is updated...

I doubt that Graphisoft, once having decided to license LightWorks would add Maxon, but as we know, a plug-in may soon be available.

For Archicad users interested in advanced modeling and superb rendering - fantastic material creation - distributed network animation processing - the works, Cinema is great value.

Hoping to see my Cinmea 4D 10 any day.
