White walls are grey

Good day,

I am new to archicad and 3d in general. I started using it 2 days ago and managed the attached rendering. Could you tell me how to make the walls and ceiling look whiter (the texture on both being already is set to surf-white).

I suppose I need to learn 3dsmax or artlantis to achieve better renderings. I installed 3dsmax but it is like "chineese" to me. Which package would you recommend for the best ease of use / results ratio.

Also how is it possible to add more materials to the list already existing in archi cad 10. How about furniture libraries ? where to get them ? (names...)

A couple of items.
You could try and adjust the color of the light.
or You could give the material a glow by having it emit a white color.

To take your rendering to the next level consider getting Dwight's book.

Just using 3ds max is only going to make your efforts more complex. Artlantis Render/Studio is easier to get started with. Both can create very good renderings.

But I suggest to stay inside ArchiCAD for a while, before you add in other applications.

The problem with additional light is that you will have more really white spots, without any detail. It might be better to play around with Photoshop to improve the image (try the levels adjustment). The lighting model in ArchiCAD is a bit primitive (to say the least).

Good day, Hugo! I hope it is a good day in Mallorka! It is winter here!

There are some basic rules about rendering which apply to all rendering applications. If you do not know them, you will not be able to produce a decent rendering in any of these applications. And, please, do have in mind that rendering an interior scene is the most difficult.

You should read a book or attend a course. It is still not possible to press a button and get a nice rendering in any application. Though it would have been great if it was!

As a suggestion, your camera angle is too wide and the camera should lie horizontal to get real vertical walls.

I suggest picking up an architectural magazine with some decent interior photography and trying to mimick their style.
