Hi all

I am rendering a relatively simple house using lightworks. I have used some window lights and the usual sun and sky lights. When i go to render the image it loads for a while then the "not enough memory" box appears BUT the image keeps on rendering. What is going on??? Can anybody help?

Geez. What a problem. It says that something is wrong but nothing is wrong. Or is it? Slower that usual rendering, perhaps? Way slower?

Something IS wrong, but whatever irrationality the rendering engine discovered doesn't kill the rendering process.
Or
your hard drive is fragmented - or mechanically wrong somehow.
Or
the computer, studying your signature graphic is momentarily confused.
Or
I also suspect that you have your light qualities set very high and this scares the rendering engine into suspecting an overload, but, being British at its core it decides to keep a stiff upper lip and "press on regardless." Unlike the disasterous charge of the light brigade, however, things work out in the end.

If this is happening every time, and it really bothers you, you might like to isolate the object causing the problem by using my Think Like a Mechanic™ techniques.

1: Check light qualities - have you got the internal sun turned off? if not, why would you have sun objects in the sky? Just more light sources to render and since V10 has a good built-in sun "Realistic" sun shader, this is the best sun, but not at high sampling rates.

2: Reduce light quality by 1/2

3: Those window lites are hidden memory killers. Like plaque around the heart. It is really easy to overdo the window llight qualities. Try with just one window light per facade. This is detailed in my book.

4: To locate a possibily corrupted element, start dropping layers 1/2 of them at a time. This eliminates possible trouble sources.

I encountered the same problem whan I rendered a project in AC 10 that was originally done in AC9.
BTW: the result was horrible!

Just seeing the image is no help.

There might be clues in:

A: Photorendering setting
- the sun shader
-other light intensity settings

B: Each other light setting

The tools can be inadvertently set to make great demands on memory without warning.

without any further investigation at the moment:
the room shown in the images was modeled in AC9 and the first image was rendered in AC9.
The we saved the project as PLA and opened it in AC10. All the settings were the same in AC10. During rendering the message "out of memory" appeared 2 times and the second image was the result.

You assume that the operational settings for Archicad 10 are the same as they were for Archicad 9. You present these similar renderings AS IF IT WAS A MYSTERY that Archicad 10 has a memory problem when Archicad 9 doesn't.

How can this be without consulting a necromancer?

There's a fundamental difference in the way the sun works between the two versions and in Archicad 10 the sun shader, realistic or otherwise, can be inadvertently set to an unreasonably high level of sampling that can appear to overwhelm memory.

I asked for lists of light and rendering settings to perhaps isolate the problem. Can you please help?

Creating Through-Fly

Hello everybody.

I tried to create a through-fly of an object. Placed the cameras and tried create a movie file. While the source is 3d-window - there is no problem to save avi or movie file . But when I select the source - PhotoRendering Window, the program stops when the usage of swop file achives nearly 1.6gbts . It seems to me that the data of the created file is stored in the RAM and when it is full the creation stops. Is any way to solve this problem without adding RAM?

Is there any web site with information about your seminars?

I'm curious what are you talking to people with wide range archicad skills avoiding that experts don't fall in sleep and the beginners cannot follow.

It is all in my book. I extract about eight hours of lecture - about 2/3 of the book content, showing it in rapid projected images.
No plunking along on the keyboard for me.
Look away from the screen for a second and you miss a chapter.

Our groups are small - typically under twenty - so you get personal attention and plenty of jokes.

There is a tentative invitation from the Netherlands, and i would like to travel to Europe in April. Perhaps we can work something out.

As to how i serve both the expert and the beginner:
I don't. If you are an expert, you've gone on to other applications or figured out LightWorks.I serve Archicad users who, by-and-large, don't have rendering, compsition or photography skills.

My service is:
-- to debunk the expectation that architectural lighting is adequate to render a space.
-- to teach a photographic approach to rendering.
-- to show quick ways to use Lightworks to render believeable scenes in a fraction of the time you might expect.
-- to show lighting tricks that astonish the eye and enliven the heart.
