There once was a radiosity plugin for Cinema4D 6.x, on which the CE-version is based. The plugin is not available anymore, unfortunately.

It was called "softRadiosity"
The original site was http://www.medienbunker.com/plugin

Maybe the Maxon people can dig it up from somewhere in the old archives and repackage it for the CE+ version? (the one without render size limitations)

And while they're at it, add the SLA-shaders too <E>😉</E>

But that might give the CE version to much compared to the newer releases...

++ FREE ++ Cinema4D CE version for ArchiTALK Members

<R>Working with Paul Babb - President and CEO of MAXON USA, I have helped to assemble a special offer for the worldwide members of ArchiCAD-TALK.

The product being offered is Cinema4D CE6 version - This version has some limitations but it is a great way to enter into the world of Cinema4D. It will allow you to get started without any expense in software, plus the work you do will be useful in the future when and if you decide to purchase an upgrade product such as C4D r9.

In order to take advantage of this offer you need to send an email message directly to Maxon USA at order-usa@maxon.net , make sure to put "PaulBabb-CE6" in the subject line. Within the body of the email give them your postal/shipping mailing address. That's it, soon your CD will arrive and you can register it. Also you will be offered the chance to upgrade ($99) it to Cinema4D CE+ which is a version that allows you to render at higher resolutions.

In summary:

Send an email to -- order-usa@maxon.net

Type this into the subject line: PaulBabb-CE6

In the message give them your mailing address. Might not hurt to let them know which operating system you use - Windows or Mac.

If you have questions, post them here at this thread and I will see that they are answered quickly.

Sincerely,

Mark Burginger

---------- --- Pros and Cons of C4D CE version. --- -----------

Pros:

(1) It will allow you to load 3ds exports from ArchiCAD
(2) It will allow you to SAVE your work. (fully compatible with later upgrade products such as C4D v9)
(3) It will allow you to RENDER and SAVE the rendered image without watermarks. (render size limited to 640 x 480 - see note*)
(4) It allows you to have several FREE C4D workstations that can work separately to create scenes, the work can be merged together later.
(5) Exports in several different formats including VRML2 - allowing your work to advance to other products such as WireFusion.
(6) Your special order via this offer will be ( Postage Free ) compliments of MAXON.

* note - You can upgrade CE6 to CE+ for $99 and remove the rendering size limitation during registration.

Cons:

(1) Not available online for instant download - you need to email your request for the CD and it will be sent to your- but at least the postage is free.

(2) This version of C4D will not work with the Maxon Plug-in product called, ArchiCAD eXchange. The newly released ArchiCAD eXchange plug-in allows you to work with both Cinema4D and ArchiCAD together so that you can update changes in the model from ArchiCAD without disturbing the lights, cameras, animations and materials defined in the C4D version of the project. This product really works great and I hope to post a full review of it soon.

(3) Of course it will not do radiosity rendering. Samples of what rendering quality it can attain will be posted here at this thread.

Consider this, Maxon is owned by Nemetaschek the makers of a competitive product for ArchiCAD. However, Maxon's main interest is in advancing the art of computer generated imagery. They have worked very hard to make their product open and compatible with a number of other modelling programs, ArchiCAD, Allplan, NXN Alienbrain, RPC, Vectorworks, etc.

Paul Babb admires the field of architecture and has promoted the development of a plug-in that allows more ArchiCAD users into the C4D arena.

To learn more about Maxon and Paul Babb see:

Link to purchase ArchiCAD eXchange plugin which now works with ArchiCAD 9 and Cinema4D r9.

Go to http://www.MAXON.net -- and click on the lower right link to ARCHITECTURE.
Cinema4D CE6 can create an image like this, no need for radiosity if you want a realistic looking render. When I receive my free copy of CE6 - I will convert one of my projects and post it as an example.

Doubt it, I think I can safely assume C4D will be better better in the long run regardless what version of artlantis might be coming out. Currently C4D is R9.1 - we can only assume they are hard at work on version 10.
Hi, as a abvent beta tester i can assure you for the moment that images with art*lantis version 5 (r) are much, much better and photorealistic that the ones showed by Burginger....

art*lantis 5 will rock, believe me...
((p.s I am sure another artist can do much, much better with a crayon- taste is a different matter from product features - speed - gui- capabilities))
Since Retirado knows better, I suggest that he/she post an image and discuss the advanced rendering toolsets of Artlantis.

yes, for the moment i can't show you nothing because beta testers have an agreement with abvent for not showing nothing about the new program in beta testing period, but i can guarantee that with a few mouse clicks (and some know how and training) art*lantis users will be capable of doing really nice images, with radiosity or GI and a really nice lightining effects....

you just have to wait ......not very much
The 50grey plugin is available for free and works in C4D CE6. This can simulate a hemispherical lighting rig, so you can get radiosity-like lighting for exterior scenes and (with more effort) interior lighting effects.

Not radiosity but free to try.
Thanks for the post Stefan,

Interesting to test. On a G5 dual 2GHz, the test file (using the 50 grey light rig) renders a 900x800 image in 5 seconds. The same scene with standard radiosity rendered in 65 seconds.

The results are below, 5 sec. on the left, 65 sec. on the right.
Hi Mark,

I wrote Maxon as instructed about three weeks ago and nothing yet......

When someone is offering you something free you don't want to be a pest but, well, how long would you like me to wait before I ask again?

From what I know, Paul Babb has been assembling various goodies to include with the disc. He said they are burning them now and will mail them out ASAP.

Thanks for your interest, I hope it serves you well.
Now that NAB is out of the way, Maxon has had more time to finally assemble the FREE disc offer. They are being mailed now far and wide.
Please post images from your use of the program in this thread.

Today's message 4-29-05

Mark,

Please let everyone know:
- The disks are hybrid.
- The readme contains serials for both platforms.
- Registration online is required for permanent use.
- The URL for registration is on the readme - this sends a
serial number via email. Do not use registration form on our
site.

Thanks,
Paul
