not quite sure what you mean by smoothness of movie but look at the following...

with a camera selected open up it's tool settings - there's a button for smooth path at camera

in the tool settings there's a path... button - open it up and make sure the path is set to bezier. you can also adjust number of in-between frames here

with a camera selected and the camera tool selected you can adjust the bezier control points of the path to fine tune it's curvature

You also need to set the "frames per second" higher to stop frame by frame effect, 24 is pretty smooth and about what TV uses I think. Bear in mind this will effect movie length too, so you may also have to increase number of frames between camera. It all means more render time!

24 frames per second for Cinema
25 frames per second for PAL TV (used in Europe)
30 frames per second for NTSC TV (used in States)

From about 15 frames per second it's starting to look smooth, depending on how much movement is seen in the scene.

another tip

always render fly thrus as individual, uncompressed frames and put them together later (with e.g. graphic converter)

gives flexibility of final output without having to re-render the whole sequence

Hi Stefan

I'd just like to clarify this - is it not best to use 29.97 frames per second for NTSC? I thought that was the magical number because it matched the frequency?

Cheers mate - hope all is well.
Well, it probably is, but only if your software has this option... (sorry, but without NTSC and without an actual television, it's pretty hard to test. I only have my PC to watch video, so I don't even see of the field order and colour space is correct when making a video...).
