i appreciate any advice

I was able to follow the link if I deleted the .rar There is a 6MB file there but when opened it is just a bunch of letters on the screen. It may take some special download proceedure. ? If you find a good site for this let me know. I would like to make some files available too. I really like ImageShack for pictures.

Here is a link to some. http://www.lights.com/pickalink/freestorage/

Free is the main thing for me.

Try this link to see if my file is there. BH2.pdf

It may work better for those interested in your model to just e-mail it to them.

Very nice modeling. Thanks for posting it.

I realize that this is a very unpopular opinion on this forum, however, I think the best way to improve your rendering is to export it to a good rendering program. Export to 3DS, render with Vray.

Your work deserves better rendering than you can get from LightWorks with out heroic efforts.

Ever try Art*Lantis? The quality is not hi-end but it sure is fast and easy to use.
WENDY:
If I understood correctly, you are new to ArchiCAD.
If this is true, then your model is pretty amazing! There are no usual beginners modeling mistakes, bad intersections or multiple objects. Considering your model is not a simple one, this is not a small feat! Congratulations.

As for the image
One of the first thing you have to decide is wether you want your model to look like a scale model, or the real thing.
If it is a scale model, the perspective is correct, but you are using some material and objects (person, tree) that do not fit. Scale model look is great, it is the equivalent of a drafting or a hand rendering. It shows enough but not too much.
If you are going to use this kind of presentation, then also choose your textures carefully (see file attached). No giving away too much, and never forget the "happy" feeling. After all, you want your client to feel happy, not moody

If, on the other hand, you want a real size model look, then you have to use another camera setting. You have to put the observer inside the scene, even if this means not showing the whole model (you can always do more than one rendering, with different camera position).
In this kind of scene, you put your client inside your model, which is much more demanding, light, texture and prop wise.

And remember, when doing a rendering, it is not about what you like, but about what your client likes (if you work for a living, that is), so try to learn his/her tastes so as not to make a neutral rendering.

I could also go into the software issue, but I guess this time I will let you keep your tread

Art*Lantis is my favorite too.

Just a tip about Maxwell Render. The $459.00 does not include the cost to replace your office building when it catches on fire and burns to the ground from your red hot CPU and melted graphics card.

Most of the super hi quality renderings you see on the Maxwell site took 20 hrs or so on a super computer or render farm.

It is a complement when your work deserves this kind of rendering.

I like the scale model look. I think Windy's project would look great rendered in all bass wood (keep the trees color) with a black background and hi gloss black glass (for windows). I used old film for window material when I built basswood models to get a glossy look to the windows in photographs. You will probably get a better result from an all white model if you render with LightWorks. It would be very hard to get that fine sanded wood look with out a hi-end rendering engine.

Wendy, if you really want a useful critique, make the model available for download so people can examine he settings and make specific recommendations. You can look at the model in better detail than anyone and see what things you could do better. What you really want to know is how to do it. What are the settings you need to achieve what you want.

I bet if you post the model you will get some fantastic renderings of it sent back to you. You can open the files and view the settings for yourself.

I did this once and people helped me get my sketch settings just right. I saved the settings and still use them all the time.

If you want a specific answer ask a specific question. "Critique this low res image of my rendering" is too vague to tell you anything you don't already know. Critique what? the modeling, the textures, the lighting, the view...
Your model and rendering may be perfect for some specific use. What is the intended use of your rendering? Who will be looking at it and what information will they be looking for. Is it going to be art for your office?
What kind of rendering are you wanting to make?

Excuse me for wading in to this advice:

1: Alternative Sunlight sources

Before using the Windowlight to achieve soft exterior lighting, users should work with the SunObject set to 10 sources with a divergence of 45 degrees. This is more efficient than using the WindowLight that can generate excessive light points. See attached, from page 46 of "LightWorks in ArchiCAD," where changes in intensity and light dimensions increases the number of light sources within the object, and vastly increases rendering time.

2: SkyObject without shadows.

This setting denies one of LightWorks/ArchiCAD's best features: graduated light energy on a vertical surface. The SkyObject effect is more sophisticated when used set to generate soft shadows.

All this and more in "LightWorks in ArchiCAD." No need for you to do countless hours of noodling - benefit from my countless hours of noodling.

You will need a file server or internet transfer service to send a PLA file.

See Dropload - for sending to one person at a time.

See FileFront - for a free distribution server.

No. A PLA will exceed the forum's sizes.

Do a google for free file transfer and pick one of them as a service.

Then you announce the location of the file on the forum and people download it.

I could be wrong - see how big your file is and try to post it first.....
