<T>Is there some trick or technique to removing the shadow edge lines from the sketch styles? I've seen several images on this forum showing images without them; but i've been unable to replicate the effect.

Have tried turning off each section of the sketch style interface, and it seems dependent on the 'sketch line settings' and no others. Have also tried rendering w/ different 3d window settings (open GL, internal engine, hidden line, etc, etc, etc.) all to no avail?

Any suggestions? Attached is an image to clarify what lines i'm talking about.

Also would like to know if there is a good way to get rid of the vertical-wall joints between walls on diff. stories (yellow arrow).</T>

Jason,

I haven't logged in for awhile. Have you had any luck resovlving these problems. I have had success removing the line between the shadow in version 8.1 but not in 9.0. In regards to the line of the slab showing through I have not had any success using the sketch engine without adding a siding skin on the outside of the building but its a real pain. Let me know if you are running 8.1 and I will elaborate on the setting in the 3d setting. Please let me know if you have had any luck with this problem in 9.0 or if anyone else has resolved this problem in 9.0. I have attached a jpeg from 9.0.

Thanks,

Still an 8.1 guy here, I'm about a year behind the upgrade curve.........

To get a screen shot, on your keyboard, it varies from one to another, is a "printscreen" key-or some facimilie(sp?) of that title-, by hitting that key you copy what you see on your screen to the clipboard. Then I open a new-blank photoshop file and paste [ctrl+v] then save as a .jpg. If you don't have photoshop the default windows picture or photo-editing program should allow the same procedure. You might have to set the resolution-image size to something small enough to fit the upload criteria of our talk-board. Converting to black and white gives a significant reduction.

Hope that gets it for you, and me

Jim,

back again.............upon closer examination of the two renderings, there are several subtle differences. Some shadows, outlines of tree trunks, ridges on the roofs, and walls are literally missing from the 8.1 version, opposed to the 9 ver. Your settings are the same, right?

I would, if I were using 9, get in touch with tech support and hound them for some help on this. For me the sketch engine is one of the most valuable parts of the whole rendering package and the need to understand it's nuances are critical.

Jeff,

Attached 3d setting for 8.1 and 9.0 will follow. I have experianced missing ridge lines in both 8.1 and 9.0 and have always touched up in photoshop. In regards to the tree trunks I have noticed that both in 7.0 and 8.1 the program had a hard time defining the edge of a cylinder when rendered. Maybe 9.0 is handling these conditions now? Will have to look into this later. It looked to me like the sun azimuth or altitude for the camera was different however I checked both cameras and they are the same. Maybe I didn't rebuild. Currently I all have one project going in 9.0 (the other projects are either in 7.0 or 8.1 and I will keep working in those versions, I have not found it worth while to bring projects forward) But since the 9.0 project it is at stage I need to render for client approval and since these shadow outlines bug the heck out of me I guess I will need to contact graphisoft.

Thanks,
Hi Jmaul,

No, I have not had any luck in fixing this. My work around was to render everything twice: once with shadows, once without. Then overlay in photoshop w/ less transparency for the one w/ shadows. Lame, but it sorta works.

Actually I'm really suprised the ArchiCAD staff have not fixed this. It seems like the kind of thing that everybody who uses sketch styles would have problems with.

samsung,

Thank you for the compliment. I have found that my renderings always look better the more I model the building. ( I.e. rafter tails, facia, and the like) Which can take a far amount of time. However, there is a great amount of information in this forum on ways to model different parts of the building efficiently. Also, I have made a few custom fills to model different materials, for example the architect I work for uses alot of standing seam metal roofs with 20" pans, so I have made a fill to represent. The rendering settings in the sketch engine are attached. If the project is in 8.1 I turn shadows on in the photorendering settings, and until the outline around shadows in 9.0 is fixed I turn them off in 9.0 Personally I like to set my cameras down around eye level for presentation to clients. Also like to put some veggi's in but make sure shadows are off otherwise they will take forever to render. If you have any specific questions please let me know. Also JasonBarish thanks for the info regarding the rendering twice and then going to photoshop.
