if Archicad people intrested about maxwell their sdk is available online...

I expect to see some action from graphisoft... Maxwell is not going to create a plugin to AC at the near future...it is at their list but there are so many stuff than need to be fixed and implemented in maxwell that just...

anyaway...

yes please vote for AC at maxwell forum...

Here is a generic 3ds to mxs translator. Should work with the 3ds files ArchiCAD exports

It is made for the SKETCHUP program, but isn't a 3ds the same from any program?

When I restart with my Radiance plugin, I will try to make it more generic, so it can be used with additional rendering engines. I think about POV-Ray, Renderman RIB and Radiance, but maybe Maxwell is an option, although it is not free... and the others are free or have free options.

But this plugin is only a side-step from my regular work, so no promises.

I won't vote because I haven't tried Maxwell - they do not offer any trial versions to test it!?!

No try ->no money ->no vote...

I'll stick to VRay in the meantime... It's free, it's great - what else could you want?

The free VRay version is limited. VRay is still a commercial application.

I'm not able to buy a Maxwell rendering license either. They offer no non-commercial or demo option...

Can any ArchiCAD = Maxwell user confirm that the 3ds to mxs works directly on ArchiCAD produced 3ds files?

I loaded the 3ds included as an example with the translator and it works fine with Cinema4D.

Someone here might find this bit of info interesting. Actually only those people who are interested in the most revolutionary rendering engine in the world. That would qualify a few people, quite a few.

There are two alternatives:

1. 3ds2mxs will indeed work with any .3ds format but
it also was designed to work best with the format I'm
most familiar with; the .3ds format that SketchUp
generates during "Export to .3ds".

For example, SketchUp preserves Diffuse RGB
information and Material Names during export. 3ds2mxs
will take the RGB information and convert it to
Maxwell material
information if applicable. 3ds2mxs also parses
Material names and assigns them Maxwell materials
according to an .INI file, so that SketchUp users can
build a library of Maxwell materials and use them
within SketchUp.

3ds2mxs was meant to be a command-line interface,
suitable for batch processing (trying different
materials, etc.) with as little intervention as
possible from the use.

2. A new tool released yesterday, MatadorLight also
will import .3ds file and gives a full blown GUI to
assigning materials, etc. I am not the author of this
software, and have only played with it briefly, but it
seems to import .3ds without problems.

Between these two tools, both freely available, it
seems like ArchiCAD users can at least start playing
with this remarkable renderer. I don't work for Next
Limit but the Alpha pricing has been well worth it for
us.
