It's not working that well with the free Unreal Runtime engine.
I guess I'll have to re-install the UT2003 game then...

<R>Hi, I found a new plugin for 3dsMax called Jamlander3

This is a new wersion of the plugin for 3dsMax5,6 to convert Max scene to .ta3da file which can be imported in Unreeled. On this link you get the plugin with help file.
I didn't try it yet but I guess somebody will enjoy it
It's better in the full game, but it still gives a lot of conversion problems...

Getting the scale right is not evident. I ended up rescaling the whole scene with a factor 100 in 3ds max (I like the max version to be on real scale, but that doesn't work in UT).

The Jamlander script is working fine in max, but it often crashed the Unreal Editor. And then the materials don't come over nicely (they need to be in a format that can be recognised, e.g. TGA and with image sizes rescaled to multiples of 4). The mapping from an ArchiCAD mesh is not coming through correctly (which is a pity, since it is correct in max).

In short: this is by far not an easy path to follow, if you're not interested in tweaking and a lot of trial and error...
