Well, first hello to all.

I must say that i have been watching really close the development of art*lantis 5, and i must say that it seems really impressive about the new radiosity feature and new shaders.

Let's see one thing: art*lantis can easily generate preview images in real life time with radiosity.. , great isn't it? and i must say too that art*lantis will be capable of calculate complex images in a real fast time.

Of course it's early to starting compare final renders, but i strongly believe that the big surprise of 2004 will be certainly the new art*lantis render.

This program produces a radiosity solution of high quality.
Radiosity differs from ray-tracing [as AV_WORKS creates] because it considers the color of reflecting surfaces in light rays.

It does a superior job to AV_Works as you can easily see from the rendering examples, although those images are done at very high radiosity mesh resolution - that takes a long time to solve - but a radiosity solution is made once for a model so subsequent images are really quick.

Lumos doesn't tolerate modeling conflicts well and cannot employ picture-mapped objects. 3D trees really slow it down, so one is limited to simple interior renderings....

Lumos also can employ the IES profile of light fixtures in solving a scene - allegedly meaning more accurate light effects.

While it is a straight forward plug-in, its radiosity quality is impaired because it uses the crude material definitions provided by ArchiCAD, lacking, for example, sub-surface reflections that enable subtle effects like marble.

Thanks for the explanation Dwight.

It does seem to offer a nice solution from within ArchiCAD. I tend to like to produce "working images" for reference, and the ability to do this within AC is great. Presumably, it'll also give a decent preview of what the image may look like when exported to a high end rendering programme?

It seems to be fairly well resolved in terms of lighting quality, but materials, currently bound to ArchiCAD definitions, can't be made sophisticated.

It represents the best radiosity solution currently residing as a plug-in, but is very slow at high quality. Even their own representative illustrations show shadow staircasing - a dead giveaway that the radiosity solution is too coarse.

The quality of those images are on par with Lightscape and Vray/MAX.
I tired the demo and it reminded me of the lightscape interface and how it calculates the radiaosity.
One thing for sure: Keep it simple!! It seems you have to be very conscious of how you model just like in Lightscape. More facets = lots of radiosity calculations.
And you want to have a decent machine with lots of memory to use this on because it will render a lower end powered machine useless.

I do hope newer versions take advantage of dual cpus.
The same goes for the new Artlantis version.

I have tested archilumos 1.51 for archicad 8.1 and i can tell u people that addon have 0 points from me cos it depends on archicad material editor, light editor and it is very slow, and i tryed 5 hours to create something and i create nothing

Artlantis 5 will kick this addon and every other render software is better then this, thrust me, and anyother addon in future which depend on archicad material and light editor is nothing but the pain.

I think that i will create 100 times faster and better image in lightscape then anyone in archilumos

I simply hate it
Matsumoto confirmed my observations, the scene with the red chair, all exterior images, and the Japanese-style room interiors are the work of art-work-cube and they were used with permissions. They were rendered in "Shade" not ArchiLumos.

OptGraph, Inc. which develops ArchiLumnos originally gave the radiosity engine to Shade. Now they hope to make ArchiLumos render images better than Shade. ((note: I personnally would rather see original images generated with ArchiCAD+ArchiLumos))

On another note: art-work-cube is moving their talents to the software combination of 3ds max+Brazil and Vray. Matsumoto is going to sell 3ds max data of the Japanese-style rooms (as shown in the ArchiLumnos Illustrations) at Turbo Squid ( http://www.turbosquid.com ) within a month. He hopes that there are many people who might be interested in Japanese culture.

I believe this is a link to demo versions of ArchiLumos which work for Mac and PC. Does not require registration like the link provided at the first post in this thread.

http://www.optgraph.com/archilumos/download_int.htm

I want to believe that this is a link to images created with ArchiLumos (not Shade):

<LINK_TEXT text="http://www.lasercad.se/produkter/add-on ... os_int.htm">http://www.lasercad.se/produkter/add-ons/archilumos/lumos_int.htm</LINK_TEXT>

Input towards earlier questions about multi-CPU radiosity solutions, as far as I know Shade never had the ability to use multi-CPU for the radiosity solution portion of a rendering. It did have an excellent method of distributed rendering for the raytrace portion. This technology might belong to Shade and won't appear in ArchiLumos. I don't know of a program (any program) that can distribute the radiosity solution. None.
