Don't know if these are temporary low prices but doesn't seem so.. Corel just pushing hard.. but still ignoring AEC world. Seems like the deal of the century to me... vegetation maker like X-frog..etc. I will likely try it as it is nearly risk-free but would like to know how Archicad models are tranfered.. Someone here uses it and I think I found him.. http://buildart.com/

<R>Does anyone here have experience using Bryce with Archicad?? Particularly the export method and the difficulty (if any) of the transition? .. There is a an excellent review of it by Cadalyst..

<LINK_TEXT text="http://cadence.advanstar.com/2002/0102/ ... bryce.html">http://cadence.advanstar.com/2002/0102/pr0102_bryce.html</LINK_TEXT>

Plus it barely costs more than the books on it.. less that $70!! Have brushed it off a bit due to the low price but it is cheap enough to try.. Corel is it's vendor. Currently running Cinema 4D demo but sometimes I wonder if we really need this much power.

Here is the rendering level I am looking to achieve..</R>

Re: Bryce 5

This was built about a year ago in Florida. Modeled in ArchiCAD. Materials, lights and rendering in Bryce5, post in PaintShop Pro. Using 3ds format works well, much like going to C4D and others.

I have spoken to Corel about the future of Bryce. The new low price is to evaluate the general interest in the program outside the present group of loyal users. If the response warrants it they will continue development. For ~$70 this is a major good deal even if they drop it tomorrow. It is just fun to use. You can get useable results right away. But don't be mislead by the the simple GUI.

PRO:
This program has almost infinite depth and breadth: Terrain modeling which can be used for much more than just mountains; Procedural material editor like no other; Tree lab; Animation; Modeling; DOF; Soft shadows; Sky lab; Water; Renderer can simulate radiosity. Easy and fun.

CON:
A good chance 5 is the last version. With lots of lights and polygons in a scene plan on leaving it to crank over night. While it can be a very useful tool in the hands of the neophite, mastering all it's features will take considerable effort.

Full Disclosure:
I still intend to use Bryce for exterior views and recreationally. For black tie interiors I now have C4D without the radiosity module. The initial design is Jonathan Zimmerman's, see
http://www.zdomes.com/ I did the CDs, renderings, etc.

Thanks for the info. Gotta hate that death spiral. The Corel site doesn't do nearly enough to showcase it.. Question.. does C4D have landscaping libraries built-in or does one have to spend on libraries/tree apps.? The tree feature in great in bryce, however if I had a library of say 200 trees/bushes that can be tinkered with (leaf color,quatity.. etc.) I won't want to be creating trees.. It's not my business..

How is does C4D compare to Bryce so far, speed of rendering.. etc?

Bryce trees are ok for middle distance, not the best for foreground. Trunk and branches are straight segments, overall CG look. C4D renders much faster.

Greetings,
Fancy finding a Bryce discussion on the AC-Talk! I have been trying to simplify the mesh creation of large areas based on digital elevation maps. So far, limited success. Good for large areas, but to get smooth meshes for detailed siteplans takes a large file and this large waits and operations.
