Terrible blue background while using Physically Based Rendering in 3D.

I am using this view a lot. Because it does not have the possibility of turning this, i will not use AC 28.

It disturbs me a lot.

Is it possible to turn it off and leave a white background?

Even the shade of the celling is blue...

"And everything he sees is just blue " 🙂

Someone from GS once explained that they deliberately gave this light blue shade to white surfaces, since white doesn't exist in reality, or something like that! I think I remember well, we specifically asked to fix this and to not interfere with the original coloures of the textures. Still nothing. I like the shadows under the furniture and stuff but for now, I am going to drop the feature too. There doesn't seem to be a way of making any adjustments to it...

Without

With Physically Based Rendering

This is awful! I use quick 3D renderings all the time for my clients, but this blue background is horrible. And, unfortunately, turning off the Physical Rendering option leaves you with less realistic looking textures than the standard 3D window in AC27 - which was a great improvement. I am not going to migrate any more projects to 28 - very disappointing because there seem to be lots of other cool things.

The blue background makes the renderer unusable! I guess I get that pure white is not reality but this blue wash that that background throws on everything is crazy.

Yes it can be turned off, and I think 3D enhancement is a great feature, but I'm turning off one of the only new features in V28 that might have been a workflow improvement. That leaves distance guideline as the only one that I will use, that makes any real difference.

I find it pretty laughable that this was introduced in AC27 as an 'experimental' feature and then seemingly given zero attention in the AC28 release except to feature it in their new 'New in Archicad' popup palette, where they tout its advantages but don't mention that you still have to turn it on as an 'experimental' feature in Work Environment..

As far as I can tell it is affected by sun position but there is literally zero additional control available..? Sigh.

Yes, I also consider Physically Based Rendering mode unusable. This opinion is shared by all the Archicad users around me. I kindly ask the Archicad developers if this can be fixed in AC29? We really only want only to improve the shadows / reflections, we would be happy if the environment was "natural" as in the classic viewport mode. We would like to have full control over the texture shade within the texture and material settings.

Kind regards

Pavel

Personally, I did not expect the new mode to match the ambitions of Twinmotion and similar programs, although it would be absolutely best to have everything in one. But I expected a better quality output for a quick presentation of partial changes for the client and an immediate more realistic preview for me in the creation process. Improvements mainly in terms of shadows, reflections, ambient occlusion, which especially in interior views give the image depth and optically anchor structures and objects in space.

Nice solution could be to have a checkbox in the 3D window Lighting Settings to enable more realistic shadows with a slider with the intensity of the effect. Enabling it would only add this effect without radically changing the appearance compared to the classic 3D display. And then work with it in the View Map for each saved view individually, just like with the sun setting. Also keeping the option to turn on contours with Physically Based Rendering for nice comics-like look.

I'm wondering if it wouldn't be better to have the option to display the same rendering in Archicad as in BIMX instead of Physically Based Rendering. It's a little better quality than native 3D and I would have an immediate preview of what the client will see in the BIMX application. I think Graphisoft's motivation to work on improving the BIMX rendering style in the future will be a little bigger than this dusty feature.

In the latest update to Physically Based Rendering, they added the option to display outlines, which is very nice, but without improving the quality of the render itself (reflections, more sophisticated work with light and shadows, ambient occlusion, white balance) it still can't be used meaningfully for presentations. Especially for interiors, where everything is now one dark blue spot, a very significant upgrade of the engine would probably be necessary to make it usable (the blue tint is only a small part of the problem). The original idea from GS was great, but I don't know if there will ever be the capacity to develop it further?

I have full confidence that Graphisoft will resolve this issue in the short term. After all, they have more than enough financial resources to assign a few extra developers to it, especially now that prices have skyrocketed with the subscription model…

/sarcasm
