Question on 3D view & custom objects & textures

<T>I'm fairly new to using ArchiCAD (couple years in) and I've searched for solutions with no luck.

As far as the 3D view goes, on a lot of custom objects, especially very detailed ones, there are so many pen lines that they completely block out the object to the point where it just looks like a [insert pen color] blob. Is there a way to completely remove pen lines in 3D? Or at least just on certain objects?

Also, when rendering with Open GL or with Cinema 4D, a lot of textures, even ones that are included with ArchiCAD either don't appear at all, or appear blue in Cinema. Even when I mess with the surface settings and can see the picture on the 3D sphere in the settings box, I still can't see them when I render.

The first picture is an example of the 3D pen lines making 3D ugly, and the other two pictures are an example of the 3D view vs what the photo render captures (pictures labeled accordingly).

Am I doing something wrong? Does anyone else have trouble with this?</T>

Hi Timothy

in regards of textures not rendering in CineRender. If you add a texture in the OGL slot you still need to add it in the Cinerender Material. For simple textures like the back wall you can use the match settings option, see image attached.

As for the 3D display you can play a bit with the 3D styles, as example turn contours off, see image attached or you can try to match the pen color for the 2D contour display, to match as example your plant green color this would help a bit.
For the 'blobby' pen problem, you were pointed to the '3D Styles' in another post by you.

<LINK_TEXT text="viewtopic.php?f=3&t=68016&p=302374#p302374">https://archicad-talk.graphisoft.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=68016&p=302374#p302374</LINK_TEXT>

Have you explored those options?

As for the Cinerender rendered view, Cinerender uses different material settings to those you see in OpenGL.
You can see this by the timber planking on the planter boxes, they look similar but they are different.

Cinerender and OpenGL use the same materail, but each material has different settings for OpenGL and Cinerender.
There is an option in the Cinerender material settings to 'Match OpenGL'.
Beware though this will, this will set very basic settings to the Cinerender material.
You are much better to create the Cinerender settings yourself (although this can be much more involved).
It is also possible to match the OpenGL settings with those you make in Cinerender options, but you will have to assign the texture images in Cinerender settings so they will be applied to the OpenGL when you do the match, or they will disappear also in OpenGL if there is nothing in Cinerender.

I see Carsten has beaten me to it.
PS 'Matching' the OpenGL settings is the same as matching Basic settings.

Thanks for all the answers guys. I was able to turn ALL the lines off in the model, which is a good enough solution. I was hoping ArchiCAD had the option to just turn them off for some objects and leave them on for others but this will do.

I am going to try the rendering solutions tomorrow and let you know how it goes. Thanks again!
