Aligning surface on imported object

Hi there! I'm trying to align a surface on an imported object to display some 'artwork'.

So far I have created the surface texture (an image of artwork) dragged the .skp file of the artwork and frame to my floor plan, converted to morph, saved down as new object and added back in the surfaces. Whenever I do this the surface image won't centralise to the object.

I have tried Document > Creative Imaging > Align 3D texture (not an option as greyed out)

I have tried Align to surface constraint in Drafting Aids, after a couple of clicks on the object it just resizes it - I could be missing something here?

I have also tried adjusting and rotating the image, object and surface, all with no luck. Something I'd imagine to be fairly simple is proving incredibly hard!

Another conversation in here mentioned adjusting the properties of the object, is it possible or too complex? It's something that I frequently struggle with in finishing a project in the Interior Design side, and I would love to have my 3D models as realistic as possible. Am I biting off more than I can chew? I realise this is very advanced use of ArchiCAD!

Thanks so much!

HI @HarrietG

For your artwork, there is an available object called Picture which you can use to select a custom image previously loaded in your embedded library.

Regards.

Hi! I can understand that you sometimes use imported objects in other file formats than Archicads native ones. Turning them into morphs can help you texture them correctly, just as you describe.

Just select your morph element and choose Document > Creative Imaging > Align 3D texture. The morph has to be selected first (and not placed on a locked layer). To move the texture, choose "set origin" and pick a point somwhere in your scene. This will be the point where the texture starts tiling.

For more precise texturing it is possible to shift-control-click (shift-cmd on mac) on single faces within the morph and drag the texture only on this face. The possibility to have different uv-mapping, including offset, rotation and projection type, on every face makes Archicad a pretty advanced texturing tool if you use morphs. For other elements, notably columns, correct texturing is almost impossible.
