The shadows are actually turned back on because the fixture is not generating the light anymore. The IES light object is placed instead to create the light.

I recommend looking the the example files at the bottom of this link
as well as go through each video on the page. Quite worth it in the long run.
Cinerender produces strange artifacts.
I encountered several troubles with anexterior night scene with IES lamps.
I will give it a try with your method.
For anyone trying the Fluorescent 19 light, there are some tricks.

1- Do not make it less then 5" otherwise the fluorescent tube dissapears. Then no light source will come from the light.

2- If you need it 5" less then use the glass and apply the Lamp material to emit the light or use a general light.

I will be testing IES lights very soon with the same scene just need to find a good IES file for a 2x4 LED fixture.
When I was testing the Fluorescent light fixture, the object was creating the light in the renderings.

In order to use an IES light you need to place another object that will generate the light.

So if you have two light objects one should be off, otherwise you have duplicated lights. So when I want to see the IES light the other light needs to be turned off.
With your tests I got a little bit more confidenti with Cinerender (I've been using Maxwell and Artlantis). Cinerender is a good improvement in the workflow. It allows you to not waste time with settings and corrections outside the model in archicad ...
On the other hand ... well ... I need to improve my skills ... with tests tests and tests ...

I did some tests.
This is what I got (see the attached picture). It is the preview image but the final one is not so different from that one in terms of artifacts and general result.

I passed to AC19 from AC18.

IES are ok.
Materials with luminance (I put a square downward with a luminance material for each lantern) produce yet so many artifacts.

How to avoid those artifacts?
What's the parameter to play with in order to have a more decent light distribution from luminance materials? Is the AREA SAMPLING parameter?

Interior Renderings and Exterior Renderings will always have different settings in order to optimize speed and quality.

In Terms of the Artifacts I found that the fluorescent light created Artifacts. There are other ways that artifacts can be created depending on the surface and other settings.

Still trying things out so I am not certain I can point you in the right direction.

However these two threads are very useful for me at the moment.
<LINK_TEXT text="http://helpcenter.graphisoft.com/guides ... umination/">http://helpcenter.graphisoft.com/guides/archicad-18-int-reference-guide/user-interface-reference/dialog-boxes/surface-settings-cinerender/illumination/</LINK_TEXT>

<LINK_TEXT text="http://helpcenter.graphisoft.com/guides ... umination/">http://helpcenter.graphisoft.com/guides/archicad-18-int-reference-guide/user-interface-reference/dialog-boxes/detailed-cinerender-settings/global-illumination/</LINK_TEXT>

If you have a better image of your rendering to upload, it would help to see what is going on with the lights.

Also try doing a white model rendering, turns off surfaces to plain color and see if you still get artifacts. If you do not have any artifacts that probably means it probably has to do with some surfaces settings?
