Another possibility is that you are lacking the texture, or you have it but it is not in the loaded libraries. I'm not sure why it would render black in this case unless that is the underlying color in LW.

More details would help to understand the situation. Like type of model, renderer used, library part edit window (screen shot), etc...

Three possibilities that occur to me:

If the import is 3ds the ambient light parameters for the internally defined materials are probably set to 0.00. I don't know why this happens but I get it consistently when importing from SketchUp.

If you are rendering in Lightworks it may be that the LightWorks material doesn't match the OpenGL.

You don't have the scene lit (ie no sun object in LW).

I can change the material, but it would never be the same as the original one

I think I have the same problem as you. But, I do not have the solution.
I suddenly have got the problem with an object I made myself, and after the problem occurred it also is the same with all the objects I load.
When I look at the object in the GDL-editor, the material is ok. The same happens with the objects I import. So it is only in the model the problem is.
I've tried to empty the cash, and remove the object I made, add it to the library again. Reload several times. Remove the object from the model. Change the material on the object. But it's still grey.
Help would be greatly appreciated.

Under the Object's Default Settings dialog box, try checking "Use Object's Materials" if you haven't already. It may or may not work.

I 'solved' my problem in making a new project and copy elements, and then some objects, and another objects to it. I naturally had to load the objects into the library. The new project works as it should.
So I do not have a clue of what was actually wrong but it disappeared in this way.

I have exactly the same Problem from this model.
http://www.archibaseplanet.com/download/5667787e.html

It's the same website with the above user. The thing is I successfully downloaded and added other models, but some of them just won't load the textures. What is the problem? I tried drag and drop from my desktop to archicad and the I tried adding them to library. Nothing worked.

The curious thing is that the model that worked had many lines on object parametrs and the one that didn't work had only one.

How is this fixxed?

damn archicad is really difficult for simple things.

Ok, just an update for my situtation. I can clearly see in the paramets tab that my object has all the parametrs switched off, but even if i switch them on the selected texture is the "default" so I guess that's why it's shown as grey or black (i think). What's the solution, I am missing textures? And how can i find the specific texture this object has?

If I switch on one of this parametrs and select one of my textures, then the object shows correctly in my 3d window. But what should I do, download only objects from which I have the Textures?

Update2: The more I read the more I understand that it's not something I do wrong. Probably it's a fault of the uploader who didn't upload the gsm file correctly (probably converted it) from 3ds and didn't make sure the textures can be used by others

Hi there!

I seem to have similar problem. In my case the materials seem ok when I have 'Use Object's Materials' enabled. When I turn it off and change to any material the render color is gray.

Is there any way to change the object's materials in imported (gsm) files?
