Well, thanks anyway Not the exact answer I was looking for. Seems I need to make this a wish along with a wish to add a button on a tool bar to turn shadows on and off without opening the 3D panel each time.

appreciate the response

<T>This seems basic, and at times I think I have the key, other times it eludes me. There much be a clear mode where it is present, and a mode where it is off. I like to take screen shots and really would like to get ride of it, but it seems to have a mind of it's own.

The way I get around it is to use the "orbit" tool by right clicking on the 3d window screen and then slightly move your view while on orbit. This will temporarily remove the 3D user-origin symbol along with 3D lines until you hit you esc key, and then it it will come back again.

Or do this with the middle mouse button.

Rick, is this a v.14 problem with the shadows in OpenGL view?

Well, yes, I think so.. lack of control. If shadows are on in one, they are on in both. I typically spin around in OpenGL, then switch to Internal for screen shots. Shadow casting in OpenGL is really nice, but with trees and complexity is gets bogged down some, so it would be nice to turn the shadows off with out opening the panel each time. I think it is like most new features, it was not introduced full blown, but basic. If you combine a Sketch rendering with a OpenGL rendering in photoshop you get added potentials that should be great. I haven't gotten around to playing with that, but it is obviously a great thing.

Only disadvantage using the middle mouse button is that you have to keep holding it down, otherwise the 3d user origin symbol comes up again. Plus the "hand" symbol gets in the way unless you are careful to pan from a corner while taking the screenshot. Using the orbit allows to slightly rotate your model which gets rid of the 3d user origin symbol, and you don't have to hold down on anything while taking the screen shot, and you can move your mouse curser away from the 3d window so that you don't have to worry about your curser appearing on your 3d screen while taking the screenshot.

You're right junior, it does have those disadvantages. I'm usually in orbit mode when I'm spinning around the 3D.
