Wow.....with all of Archicad's programability and functionality and there's no easy way to make "Sections" rendered with the cut fill as "black" rather than the "white (clear)" color you see there? Amazing.

<T>How do I get my "rendered in lightworks" section to come out looking like the model section cuts look in Archicad?

The objects that are in section I'm looking to make them "black" while using the "Lightworks" rendering engine.

They only show up in black in the actual PLN model. How can I render them so they show up in "black" using the Lightworks rendering engine?
(see image)</T>

Postcards From the FRINGE:

I don't believe there is any EASY way to accomplish this...

1. Make your RENDERED SECTION by SEOing with a BLACK BLOCK and be sure to check the INHERIT MATERIALS function.. Brutal, I know, but you can leave these section cutting blocks in your plan and simply move them DOWN so they don't cut anymore once you've rendered... Again, brutal, but you can maintain your exact section cut next time you do it....
NOTE: you can then change the color of the CUT ELEMENTS by changing the color of the BLOCK.

2. You could do the same thing with an OBJECT (big block) and maybe the other GDL gurus can figure a way to have it "show / not show" (or cut / not cut) based on layer combination!... So only 3d Section Layer Combo actually draws the cube... It a stretch, but hey, these are postcards from the Fringe...

3. You could also make sure that all the MATERIALS of all the elements were BLACK, but that's just sill and unatainable..

4. Easiest method: OVERLAY your SECTIONS over your RENDERS so the black shows.. You can manipulate the FILL overrides to show only CUT FILLS (and not the colors beyond) and simply lay your rendered version behind...

If i understand the problem correctly:

Use the Marquee to define the visible parts of the model.

Visit the 3D Cutting Planes Dialog and define the cut plane as black, or whatever.

Create an elevation view. You'll see your selected color in OpenGL and it will render the same.

Here's a related thread from just yesterday [Peter Clark's solution]:
Well....didn't seem to work.
I "SEE" the cutting plane as 'black' in the actual 3d sliced off model elevation view but when I render....still comes out looking "white" (hollow) and not black.

Where do I adjust the rendering to show the cut plane as "black" while I'm using the 'Lightworks' rendering engine?? that' what I'm looking for....to be able to render using the Lightworks rendering engine and have my cut planes show up as "black".

Now...do I have to set it to something else, then reset it back to "black paint" and re-render???
Like I said.....the rendering is coming out as I have shown in my image below.....it's not "black" the section cuts.....it's "white-ish" color.

(Apologies to Rob for going slightly off-topic!) (Mini rant alert!)

I've often wondered why the controls for the 3D cutting planes and marquees are not lumped together in the same dialog box. It would make much more sense then the current arrangement of hiding stuff in unrelated dialog boxes, which only causes confusion and makes the workflow awkward!

Why have the info bar for the marquee tool only allowing you to change the shape of the selection, and primitive control of the storeys it covers?

Why are the controls that allow you to choose whether elements display inside or outside the marqueed area found in the 'Filter Elements in 3D' dialog?

Why are the controls that select the cut material of marqueed elements found in the '3D Cutting Planes' dialog?

It would be nice in the future to combine the features of both 3d cutting planes and marquees into one tool, that allows you select and easily adjust clipping volumes and planes both in plan and 3d. There is probably a wish for this already somewhere!
In the materials dialog box, check the lightworks preview and settings for the black material you are using. Maybe it's set to render as white, or is very reflective or emissive or something strange. Does the material render correctly if applied to the face of a normal wall?
