topic GIS LAND DEVELOPMENT. in Collaboration with other software

<T>Our firm is looking into getting some land development software. We will be using this software to show grading, calculations and the like. We are looking at AutoCAD LDD, but are willing to look into anything similar in quality in the Archi-world. Is there any program out there that competes on quality, ease, and utility with this program?

We are also looking at ArcMap with the 3D analyst extension. My hope is that there is a program out there that is compatable with archicad that I will be able to take pretty pictures with as well. We have had good luck with meshes and building maps, but are looking at more ability from the software than what is currently available with just ACX, or AC9.

Here is an example of things that we would want to extract from the info.
ArcInfo or ArcMap are two decent low-cost entry systems. MapInfo on a SQL data base is a better system.

Autocad is a drafting program and any variation deals with line work first and data second. Instead the streght of GIS is built on powerful databases and the visualization of the data is secondary to the meat and potatoes of the system.

We currently have ArchiTerra, and have found that its use is limited. For a large land development project, hundreds of acres, it is just not powerful enough, or encompassing enough. Will pursue ArcMap with 3D Analyst Extention.
