topic Re: Archicad to SketchUp export? in Collaboration with other software

I tried both ways (importing a 3ds file into Sketchup, and using the Google Earth plug-in) but with each my sketchup file opens blank. Just white backgroung and a top view, but there's nothing there.
Not even Susan
I have ArchiCAD 15 and Sketchup 8.
Any help? Thanks in advance

Archicad to SketchUp export?

<R>I was wondering if there is a way of exporting the Archicad project and importing it into the Sketchup?

I know there is a plugin for the opposite export (from SketchUp to Archicad)

But what about from Archicad to Sketchup?

Thanks.</R>

if you've installed the plugin:
When in 3d view, save as ....you should have the *.skp as file format choice.

or export the 3d in *.3ds format.

I tried using the .3ds export from Archicad and import to SketchUp but I am not satisfied with the results.

I did installed the plugin but there is no .skp extension in the Archicad 12 Save as 3D window. Take a look:
http://imageshack.us/f/695/60610880.jpg/

Also when I look at the Sketchup folder where the plugin files should be, there is only the Archicad IMPORT plugin, not an export one.

I am not sure that Archicad 15 can use Sketchup 8 files.
I think it is more like Sketchup 6 format that it needs.
I have nothing in front of me to check this at the moment but I am pretty sure that is the case.
Try opening an old Sketchup 6 format file and see if that works.
But if ArchiCAD can use only Sketchup 6 files, then using the plug-in to save as .skp it would save as Sketchup 6. And my Sketchup 8 sholdn't have trouble opening the lesser version. Or I'm not getting it right?

luka1992:

Yes, software should be able to open earlier versions of its own files, but not later versions (since that version did not exist when the earlier version was coded). In SketchUp 8, try Save As... and select the Save as Type: SketchUp 6 option.

You should add a Signature to your Profile (click the Profile button near the top of this page) with your ArchiCAD version and operating system (see mine for an example) for more accurate help in this forum.
