I have that book and it is very complicated. If creating quantities is your life's work it certainly does the job. If you are an architect with limited time for such tasks, I recommend that you check out Cigrapgh's Archiquant.

Archicad 14 is supposed to have direct links to Excel. I wonder if it makes material-takeoffs easier?

No changes. AC 14 just has the ability to save in Excel format rather than just in CSV.

Cheers,
Those PDF's are a very basic (and dated) intro to interactive schedules. They don't have anything to do with the question of components and material take-offs, all of which are handled by List Schemes and the Calculate database which was the original question here.

It's basically the way you did it in AC4.5, 6, 7 etc. We're still hoping though, it's bound to be restructured one day.

This manual can help... just know it is tedious and painful. You just have to dive in and once you figure it out it is pretty straight forward and repeatable. The steps are clearly laid out on this little manual, well... somewhat. Don't forget the manual under the help menu.
I had nothing to do with it actually. My understanding is it was done for for dealers to help their clientd, but that could be completely wrong. It was written by Duane Valencia, another forum member. It is way beyond something I could do. I simply received a copy back in the late 90's and posted it to my web site so other struggling souls could access it. Many, many people have downloaded it so I am happy to provide it to the forum… and no one from GS has said I couldn't.. so

As of today, there are still problems with the quantities the interactive schedules generate. If you model your footings and foundation walls as walls, and schedule the volumes, they will not be the true volume you can verify by hand, and they will not match the volume you will get if you convert them to morphs and schedule those morph volumes.

The morph volumes will be the more accurate quantity. This is not a mistake in the calculations the program makes, it is because of how the program understands the wall intersects/clean up.

Does it consider the total length of the wall measured on the outside or to the reference line? Does is alternate the lap of the walls at corners or does it miter them. Things like that.

Per my tests, if you really want to know the true volume, select the footings and foundation walls and copy them off to the side. Then convert them to morphs and schedule the morphs, not the walls.

This is especially true when the corners are not 90 deg. As in the case of a bump out with 45 deg walls for something. The way the walls clean up can be seen when you select them.

You will also find the there is a discrepancy between what the lable says the length is, the dimension on the plan, and the length showing in the schedule.

It all boils down to the fact that you must be very careful about verifying the quantities in the interactive schedules. Some of this can be controlled by how you model, what you model something as, and the specific perameters of the schedule.

I am not sure it is actually possible to generate an accurate schedule for things that should be very reliable.

I posted some stuff recently about here: <LINK_TEXT text="http://archicad-talk.graphisoft.com/vie ... hp?t=51852">http://archicad-talk.graphisoft.com/viewtopic.php?t=51852</LINK_TEXT>
