Interesting.....

Would GS be willing to give apple a 30% cut?
If so why not a paid download from it own web site! this would save paying the middle men !

There is currently about 1000 apps in the app store, both free and paid.
So most Mac apps are currently not represented in the App Store.
But I don't know whether ArchiCAD will be available in the App Store at some point or not.

The Mac App Store is intended to address a similar market to iPhone Apps - easy, 1-click installation, automatic updating, etc. It's a fantastic way to connect developers with the marketplace, but it won't suit everything. Professional software like ArchiCAD is relatively very expensive to develop and support, and is several orders of magnitude more complex than the Apps in Apple's store. The 'middle-man' for ArchiCAD doesn't just make the sale - they are there to know the local marketplace and provide support and contact to customers.

I personally don't believe that ArchiCAD (or software like it, e.g. Adobe's Creative Suite etc) will appear in the App Store for a very long time (if ever). I might be wrong, but I think software of that kind requires a very different relationship between the developer and customer.

And putting ArchiCAD on the app store would reveal it's price worldwide, which is something that NO cad vendor likes to do.

yes I don't see ArchiCAD, Autodesk, Abode software etc appearing in the app store any time soon.

However a good move would be releasing smaller apps on there (for little or no cost) as a marketing tool. Eg like what Autodesk & Adobe have done on the iPhone.

Interestingly, Autodesk has released Sketchbook on the Mac App Store. I wouldn't be surprised if Adobe puts some of its consumer software on there too. But I doubt that high-end, professional tools will make an appearance. The licensing alone doesn't suit the App Store approach.

I have been reading about Autodesk. They apparently try to start to open more toward the general customer. They are trying to make Autodesk a sort of a household name that is known not only in the CAD/BIM industry. They are now a pretty big company actually.
SketchBook is a program that almost anybody may use, not only a design professional.

yes sketchbook on iphone & ipad are great, (& cheap $10), so a perfect fit for the app stores. I doubt see Revit appearing on there any time soon though!
