Headline seems great to me! <E>🙂</E>

Graphisoft West (western US reseller for those reading from other countries) sells Artlantis, Piranesi and other products that work as part of our ArchiCAD workflow.

Recently Abvent introduced a plug-in so that Revit users can take advantage of the super-easy, super-fast Artlantis. Hopefully, increases users (sales) of Artlantis will lead to further development of the product, so I'm glad to see them pushing it. Interesting that I didn't get the same email, so your firm, Laura, must be flagged in their database as having some Revit licenses I would guess. But, selling Artlantis for Revit seems like a clever way for them to make contacts in Revit firms that they want to get ArchiCAD into?

(Of course, the cynic could read this as - hey, you can switch to Revit now because Artlantis and Piranesi work there, too! )

Cheers!
Does their built-in rendering engine (Mental Ray now) have a live preview where adjusting light positions and intensities is immediately reflected, dragging and dropping textures is quick and visual, sliding a bump or reflectivity slider shows immediate results, final rendering is fast - utilizing all available cores, and batch rendering permits images, animations, VR's etc to all be generated in the background overnight? <E>😉</E>
But does Artlantis have what looks like such simple and intuitive material setup? It would be great if lightworks had something similar where you literally choose a 'finish' to a material, rather than faffing about with diffuse and ambient reflectivity levels etc.

The Mental Ray renderer in Revit:

1 Is 1/12th (!!) as fast as the one in Max, though the images it makes are very good
2 Is limited to four cores
3 Has no hope in hell of making a movie because the render process would take a decade
4 Has no live preview of effects as Karl noted above

So there is a case for Artlantis, were it better known among Revit users. And most of them will never have heard of it...

Wes - thanks for the insight into the state of Mental Ray in Revit! Shame about the speed thing. The images I saw browsing around did look far superior to the previous Accurender ones.
Well, MR in Revit is not at all bad; it's just that Max is smokin' fast. I've asked a buddy of mine at Autodesk to confirm if the MR engines in Revit and Max are different -- I think they are, but I'm not 100% on that. We tested Revit vs Max and Max' speed is amazing.

Rendering has so many variables... sometimes the same resolution shot in MR takes less time than Accurender, sometime's it's more. The only thing I miss from AR are the procedural trees. RPC growies just aren't the same...

Some Reviteers actually prefer AR to MR -- which I really don't get -- the lighting in AR was just awful in comparison.
