topic MEP - plug in in Collaboration with other software

<T>MEP has a plug in which has to be installed on the MEP engineers computer if one wants to make use of 3D MEP model information produced using Autocads MEP program.

My experience is that MEP engineers will not do this since it creates more work for them and they are paranoid about running a .exe file on their computers from a source which they cannot validate for fear of being infected.

Unless there is some licencing, copyright issues, why could graphisoft not have had an Autocad MEP import feature / add on so that the onus and effort was on me to import the data.

regards
I might be wrong but my guess is that the reason there is an MEP Add-On for AutoCAD MEP so that we can create those intelligent MEP objects in AutoCAD. Otherwise those objects may not be as intelligent as they are in ArchiCAD and data would be lost in the data exchange process. The MEP Add-ON creates basically GDL objects within AutoCAD.

Laszlo is correct...Without the GS MEP Add-On (or other Add-On) your engineer will not be able to produce "BIM" with AutoCAD. The important part of "BIM" is the "I", which cannot be produced with AutoCAD alone, and as I tell all my clients and users "garbage out - garbage in".
