<T>Hello

I need help with putting models created in archicad into illustrator.

In archicad, let's say I created a simple house with furniture.
in archicad, the cover fill of the slab will not show through the sofa because it's on top of the slab.

However, when I Save this as dxf and place it in illustrator, the cover fill of the slab shows through the sofa!

how do i make it so that this doesnt happen?
I can edit it in illustrator, but there'S gotta be a way to do it way faster!

please help!</T>

Try exporting as a PDF instead of DXF. Illustrator can open the PDF directly and it should behave better than DXF.

ejrolon

the pdf method is great, but sometimes I want to edit certain elements of the floor plan on illustrator. (ie stretch a line just a bit)
However, with pdf, i can't do that even after I ungroup the placed pdf image.

when imported as dxf, I can edit every single line, but the slabs see through as i mentioned before...

Any way I can do both? If there'S a way to save a dxf file so that the lines underneath objects (like slab cover fills under a table) do not see through?
Is there somethign in the "dxf translator" settings I can tweek?

Please help, thanks.

The first item is that if everything is working/drawn correctly you shouldn't need to stretch or adjust a line.

One trick is that instead of exporting or using save as of the "complete" drawing save it in parts. First walls and columns, then furniture etc. This should give more control over the elements in Illustrator and should also work with DWGs/DWFs.

Another trick is to export with a color penset instead of Black and White so that you can use Select - Similar in AI to edit the items. This can also work with DXFs.

If using DXFs you could also use the Smart Fill in AI to create a hatch and cover the offending lines.
