Software companies always have - and always will - copy each other. As long as they imitate the good parts, they'll get more customers.

Interesting that the energy analysis tool is given as part of the package and not as a paid addon (currently only for subscription customers). Maybe someday... 😉

I think you will find that Autodesk have been working on this long before ArchiCAD came out with ver 13, which had BIM server. SO i wouldn't exactly say that they copied, They were just slower to get it implemented???

GS was working on TW2 for some years before the release of 13. I don't think there is much copying going on for these major development projects. The need for server improvements on large projects is obvious to everyone. Graphisoft just happened to be ahead of Autodesk on this. They have been doing it a bit longer after all.

That Revit Server setup looks like digital duct tape to me. I wonder how well it works with a complex project.

I don't think it's comparable to TW2 when you get down to the nuts and bolts of working in it.

Won't be long before Graphisoft sets the record straight.

Will be good to hear from Karl on this also.

This bit makes the setup sound very difficult.

"While the new Revit Server technology is available for free (currently for subscription customers only), its implementation does require some additional hardware and software such as Windows Server 2008 and 64-bit servers"

And expensive.

GS has created a white paper about the design sharing methods in BIM as implemented by the various players.

And here it is! But why is it that when GS finally release a decent document like this, they hide it away in some obscure location instead of plastering it (or at least a link to it) on their homepage?

Come on GS you've got a rare chance to show the public that you have the (far) superior solution and you're squandering it.

It deserves the position on the top of the Graphisoft home page, and publication on all the CAD/BIM forums and review sites, as well as direct emailing campaign to anyone who has anything to do with BIM in the world.

Autodesk has now maybe what Graphisoft had 15 years ago with TW1. The reliance on the M$ infrastructure and the heavy hardware and networking investment that is REQUIRED for the stuff to work AT ALL has to be emphasized. What is the worst outcome is that the average ignorant public will think that you HAVE TO do it that way, as in their world there is no other way but the Autodesk way. Now, THAT is scary!

It is still to be plastered all over ... ArchiCAD Talk is not a place anyone will come to while sipping the morning coffee. AEC Bytes, or UpFront may be?

GS Marketing yet again is unacceptably poor. They have a great product, TW2 puts them light years ahead of the competition, but they don't sell it.

When I first started users who found Archicad years ago were people who went looking for the best product. Now, GS is up against people who go with what people tell them without questioning.
Autodesk's slogan is 'What does BIM mean to you? Revit'.

When is GS going to start aggressively marketing their product?

I know GS is working on this. The reason this white paper was done in the first place is to promote our advantages better.
We are the lucky ones to learn about it firsthand before it is spread worldwide.
