topic importing polylines with z values. possible ? in Collaboration with other software

<R>For a long time we've been wanting to import dwg files with terrain lines and rooftop lines so that they retain their z values once imported into archicad.

In previous version of AC this has not been possible, but someone on a graphisoft helpline suggested that with AC16 this could actually be done.

We have used AC16 for a while now, without any success in this regard.

If you have any experience with this, please let us know <E>😉</E></R>

digitaljazz:

Have you tired opening the DWG file as an Object? This should import the DWG as a 3D object.

You should add a Signature to your Profile (click the Profile button near the top of this page) with your ArchiCAD version and operating system (see mine for an example) for more accurate help in this forum.
Thanks for your reply.

Yes, we've tried that as well.

Opening the dwg as an object does not give us editable lines. Yes, it's viewable in 3D - but it's a huge task to trace/morph it into something that we can work on further.

That way it's just as fast to import the dwg as flat 2D and build everything from scratch.

By any chance can the Mesh Generator could be used, if you can export the polylines in AutoCAD to a text file?

Here are some samples on this forum.

Once the dwg file has been imported as an object, the object can be converted to a Morph, which is editable.
You can try with this object on ArchiCAD Object Depository:
