I would love to try that file in BIMx. Any chance you could convert it to BIMx and post the BIMx file?

I wish I could buy ArchiCAD to do that myself but I can't, yet.
no graphics visible in ifc

<R>I'm new to ArchiCAD. Using a trial version of 22. Love it, by the way. I'm experimenting with ifc models from this site: http://openifcmodel.cs.auckland.ac.nz/Model/Details/322

I see the differences in ArchiCAD between ifc open, and merge. Trying either way, I can see data structure in the panel on the right side of the ArchiCAD, but I see no graphics in any of the graphics views, 3D or drawings.

I feel like I'm probably the problem. I'm doing something wrong. I'm not turning something on right or some setting.

Any help appreciated! </R>

Thank you Christophe! I will try it in BIMx Pro on my iPad. I hadn't thought of that. BIMx is awesome in my opinion. Still I was wondering about the procedure in ArchiCAD. I learned the following:

I finally got some ifc files to load in ArchiCAD. It is very easy to try to load ifc into ArchiCAD in a way that does not appear to work. Here’s the secret handshake to get it to work (keep in mind I am a total ArchiCAD novice / I have no idea what I don't know):

1. open any ArchiCAD project (file) or create a new one
2. go to the plan view tab in the graphics area. Do not attempt to load ifc into a 3D graphics area
3. go to file>interoperability>merge
4. accept default settings when prompted

There are at least two other tools/methods for bringing ifc in ArchiCAD. File>OPEN, and hotlink. I have not tried hot link. File open seems to process and complete but graphics do not appear. I think this is user ignorance on my part. It is probably doing something like opening the ifc extremely far from the coordinate space origin and outside of visibility somehow. I don’t know how those things are controlled in ArchiCAD.

Ifc = no graphics so put ifc into a bimx it's not a great idea
I had to concate your pdf into the bimx file to show you what a bimx deals with
It takes so much time than create your structure directly into Arhicad but I'm able to do this

Yes. Understood. I was able to merge the IFC into ArchiCAD and it looks great (now that I did the merge from the plan view and then opened a 3D view). But the export to BIMx function is not available because I use a trial version of ArchiCAD 22 (no save, no export).

I'm experimenting now with workflow and not able to buy a license yet, sadly. I'm no longer in the BIM or drawing production (Architecture) business, so I can't drop $$ on all applications I wish I could and would love to
