I was at my university yesterday Talking to the Built Environment guys- BIM dept. The clean out they undertook a few years ago has yeilded an amazing transformation and the research work is REAL BIM. Basically I was surprised a once architect driven program is now run by engineers. Sadly, I found archicad relegated behind sketchup on old clunker computers?
I thinks its time for a re-assessment at GS-Archicad.
How about giving us VTK file translation as a mater of urgency
Thanks
I finished school for Civil Engineering and I was working most time in Autocad. Once I went for "Extra learning" classes with my dad's colegue, he taught me how to work ( basics ) in Archicad, and i like it!
My plan is to finish Civil Engineer University, but I do not know do I need to know to work in Archicad because it's main is purpose for architects? Can I make bridges, roads and rail roads in archicad? What do you think is it better to expand my knowledge in Archicad ( for buildings, roads, rail roads and Bridges ) or to dismiss all that and jump to autodesk products for that purposes. Please I need some info and advices. </R>

I think it is a mistake to ask (mostly) architects what you will need to be a civil engineer. You will get better information from looking at advertisements for civil engineering jobs, and talking with civil engineers.

Okay, I'll try to write more clearly. This forum is mostly architects and architecturally-oriented people. They generally do NOT have any idea what the best investment of your time is, related to civil engineering, let alone Croatia. You really need to ask this question in a Croatian civil engineers' forum.

Good for you..civil engineering will come in very handy
I like it too, but you might have a little more success transitioning from 2D to 3D with Vectorworks. When you move from 3D to simulations/analysis/FEM you may wish to consider Revit (AEC) or bentley (civil)
Well I have in plan to learn archicad first then All plan or maybe someone has better advice which product ( maybe from Autodesk ) to learn in which i can make roads, railroads and bridges?

For ROADS and RAILROADS I suggest you to use "Plateia 2015" and "Ferrovia 2015" (made by CGS plus d.o.o. Slovenia) which runs on AutoCAD and BricsCAD Pro.
I have a purely architectural engineering background, but my gut feeling would be that ArchiCADs toolset isn't what you would look for in civil engineering tasks.

I'm sure you would be able to get results, but it would not be a very productive efficient route.

As suggested by others: have a look at online job descriptions or find a community dedicated to civil engineering. The more local, the better.

I think Bentley is pretty popular along side AutoDESK in the civil engineering community.

Well I have in plan to learn archicad first then All plan or maybe someone has better advice which product ( maybe from Autodesk ) to learn in which i can make roads, railroads and bridges?

Our university here has just changed from Revit and done a deal with Bentley because of Stand7 FEM (deal broker). The next big move hopefully will be to Comsol due to its app developing capabilities, you are better off giving in and linking with them,as no one uses NAG products down under.
