<T>Hello,
it looks like the wavefront (.obj) export is buggy in AC 21.
The objects don't keep their material definition.
I think the problem lies in that the material name in the .obj file can be different that the corresponding ones in the .mtl file.
Hope you can fix that soon GS.
Hello everyone,

We have investigated this report, and apparently the export is buggy in ARCHICAD 21 indeed. The mtl file contains wrong texture names, so the textures will be missing when opened.

The easiest workaround until we fix it is to save the project back to ARCHICAD 20 and export the OBJ from there.
Hi Kovacs,
Any news on this one? Spent a couple of hours yesterday trying to understand why my sketchfab export didn't work out and here I found the answer. Back-saving to 20 meanwhile

I thought that Wavefront OBJ was more or less an archaic format?

Pending the bug fix ...

An easier workaround than saving back to AC 20 format and opening/exporting there, it seems to me, is to simply export a Collada DAE file from AC 21 and then use the excellent, fast and free Meshlab to open the DAE and then export it as OBJ from Meshlab. Meshlab can also export as PLY and other textured mesh formats as well.

Hey Karl,

This should be fixed in build 60xx which was released for English speaking versions as a preview already. The final version should come out in a matter of weeks, but until then, you can give it a try:
Any news on that?
Anyone has tested the new international version?

Obj is (was) the best format to export to other 3d softs, the only one that kept correct geometry materials and uvwMapping. Maybe it is old but still the best so far.
Plus it was the fastest, which is important for big projects.

The issue with obj file export, that the materials got messed up should be fixed in AC21 60xx and AC22 30xx.
Did you find that it still messes the materials up for you the same way in the new version?
AC22 SWE full. Latest update. I use Sketchfab for viewing. When I export obj I get the concrete material but not the brick (both png) I zipped the obj+mtl+texture folder into one zipfile and in Sketchfab I can manually relink the textures but that's not interesting. When I export as fbx textures are fine but the model is rotated.

I haven't tested this but I am wondering if when saving as OBJ, is it using the wall surface override rather than the building material, or maybe it is the other way and it is using the building material rather than the surface override.
I am wondering it it is using one or the other regardless of how the wall is actually set to display in Archicad.
I haven't tested this but I am wondering if when saving as OBJ, is it using the wall surface override rather than the building material, or maybe it is the other way and it is using the building material rather than the surface override.
I am wondering it it is using one or the other regardless of how the wall is actually set to display in Archicad.
Sherlock Kelly, you're right. It's only the override surface that exports applied to the element.
.fbx does the job as expected (WYSIWYG) apart from the rotation (which I can fix in Sketchfab).

Thus both obj and fbx are flawed (at least with Sketchfab). Fbx is the better of the two...
