<T>Hello,
i want to translate the Uniformat classification downladed from Archicad website,
the xml file, once loaded in excel, it can't be saved back as an xml to load it ino archicad,
Is there a way to translate it ? or workaround ?
Note : I have an excel sheet with only ID + translated classifications
Thanks</T>

Try editing the XML file with a dedicated XML editor, like Notepad++ (it is free). Then, if you save changes, the XML files should still have the same format.

This Is the classification system, all in English, ( Masterfomat )
To translate names in frensh, to do this on archicad is a waste of time
translating the file in a XML editor will also translate commands
And what if you simply save the XML under another name, and change the texts in the XML itself?
Looking at the XML, I would assume the simply changing the following

<Name>Procurement and Contracting Requirements</Name>

to

<Name>French Translation Text</Name>

should work.

Actually, I was curious so I tried it. I just modified the XML file in Notepad++, saved and I could import it into the Classification Manager Dialog without any problems.
As you can see, I have translated a few English entries into Hungarian and they are correctly displayed.
Thanks LaszloNagy !

It works yes, but teadious for 1200 name 😛

i'm searching for a way to automate this
in XML, there is a function that highlights all same words, so , this inspires me , it may work :

* Search for <name>

* Highlight them

* select lines with highlited names

* Copy lines to a new file

* translate them with translate function ( it exists )

* Copy them back to replace lines ( i think there is a function like this, i did some researches)

It may work after some research, that would be a huge help for the community

Actually this is "somewhat" doable in Python using Google's google_trans_new module, which uses the Goolge translator site.

One: Google site has a limit and will periodically shut down without warning if overused. You can purchase a paid service.

two: The translations are not very Good.

Three: Some English words or phases will translate to the same French word or Phase. This will cause duplicate ID's and invalid the XML file. I worked around the problem by appending a line count to the end of any duplicate phase to make it unique. This may not be acceptable.

Four: Since the translations may not be acceptable-- they would still have to be manually reviewed. This somewhat defeats the purpose.

I have attached a French translation XML
from Google to demonstrate the possibilities.
