Somebody knows how can I convert exactly the layout space from an AutoCAD file into an editable ArchiCAD file. I tryed but the result was an export of the model space not the layout.
The AutoCAD layout with viewports has to be imported to PlotMaker.

ArchiCAD only imports model space.

To open a DWG in paper space, change the settings in the translator.

Under the "Settings in Selected Translator" area, select the "Open options" and find the "Import drawing data from" line. Change this line to "Paper space with viewport contents" and the results will open with the paperspace views in Archicad.

The drawing will come in at a 1 to 1 scale of the paper space and some of the text may get distorted but the views and arrangements will remain.

Hope this helps.

That's a new one on me. It shows what happens when when I don't check to see if what I once knew is still true.

That's good to know. Thanks.

It seems that the translator dialog for version 9 has left out the "Paperspace with viewport contents" option in the "Import drawing data from" line under "Open options" in the "Settings in selected translator" area. Anyone have a thought on how to override this? The only options remaining are "Model space" and "Paper space with empty viewports"!

Short of opening it in 8.1, you do have the "old" API provided, that does have that option.

Your drive:\Program Files\Graphisoft\ArchiCAD 9\Goodies\DXF-DWG 2K In-Out

However, it does not open 2004/2005 DWGs ...

The DWG API has been re-written completely, in order to support 2004/2005 DWG. Only the developers can give you the right answer, but the option is sorely needed.

If I do need to open the PaperSpace with viewport contents from 2004/2005, I open it in 2005, save as 2000, open it in 8.1, then ... whatever is needed. Quite time consuming.

Not to mention extending a dependency on AutoCAD. And a new version, to boot!
And now, to add insult to injury, the translator will not work on my Mac! I set everything up as usual, but AutoCAD files will not open. It seems that the translator settings dialog reverts the 8.1 translator to a 9-like version, except I get an error message "Can't open in this dialog".
