topic dxf incompatibility in Collaboration with other software

<T>I have attached a dxf file that I cannot open using either the Version 9 default Translator or the Translators from 8.1 . I have had a couple
of these files from my surveyor (but not all) that neither he nor I can
figure why they will not open . I can however import the file using Architerra ,other Cad programs also open the file. We would like to figure out what the incompatibility is -- Could anyone help ?</T>

Opened in VoloView Express OK. Nothing shows up in AC 9. In SketchUp 5, the importer lists all of the entities that are being imported ... but then nothing shows up.

I wonder if the original drawing was made really far from the origin...?

No clue really - but if there is something that AC can't cope with, an error message would certainly be useful. <E>😉</E>
I am glad it was not just me. Architerra reports import from 855 to 1048 in "X" and 1055 to 1296 in "Y". I am sure I have imported others
from further away without problems ___ how far is too far ? ____

Love these type of problems...
First, why a dxf as AC can open dwgs fine?
The reason that nothing is showing up is that there is nothing drawn in AutoCAD's model space, all the lines were drawn on Pspace so when you import into AC all you will get is a blank Story. Even if the file was a regular dwg.
To open the file all you have to do is open it using PlotMaker and making sure that you choose "Append Paper Space Layouts to Book". From there you can save it as a dwg and open it in AC.
BTW this is not AC's fault since this is not a standard way to draw in AutoCAD. The equivalent in AC is that the draftperson instead of drawing in AC drew all of the project in PM and then you wondered what happened to all the 3D info?
Attached is the DWG file as it is supposed to be... it will import without problems into AC. Also be sure to verify the dimensions, I don't trust dwgs that have these types of errors without double and triple checking them for other problems.

Thank you for the answer , I will let the surveyor know. His survey program (not Autocad ) seems to be saving it in Paper Space (or his programs equivalant ) The problem must be with his export function.

Thanks Again ,
