A couple of things I've noted about exporting IFC from ArchiCAD:

1. Saving out of the 3D window generally provides better results and is easier to filter by stories. Beware of layer combinations, renovation filters, and model views.

2. ArchiCAD Zones will not export to Revit Rooms if typical default ArchiCAD view settings are used. Generally, ArchiCAD Zones are hidden in 3D. If you are saving from the 3D window, you have to turn on Zones in the "Filter and Cut Elements in 3D" dialog box.

3. The Grid Element (which is 3D) is meant to export into smart Revit structural grids, IF they use the "ArchiCAD Connection Add-on". If not, it doesn't typically convert properly. If the ArchiCAD grid was created using 2D lines, then you have to set up the IFC filters as discussed below.

I hope this helps.

<R>Hi all!

I've received an Archicad IFC from the architect, but the grids, levels and space tags, doors are lost. Even the rooms don't have closed boudaries.

Is there any good way to get all the "important" data? (Imporved IFC Import results the same..)

Tehre is a an image, about the "expected" and the "real" plans.
"expected" was made by merging the arcitect's 2D DWG and the exported sheet of Revit.

<S></S>Image<E></E>: https://goo.gl/6AZrH2

thanks, Peter</R>

Actually, it is possible to export/import 2D IFC data.

In the IFC translation Setup Dialog, in the Import/Export Filter Options panel, the "Convert IFC Annotations and ARCHICAD 2D elements" and "Convert 2D Symbols of Doors and Windows" checkboxes do this.

<LINK_TEXT text="http://helpcenter.graphisoft.com/guides ... s/#1117886">http://helpcenter.graphisoft.com/guides/archicad-19-int-reference-guide/interoperability-2/file-handling-and-exchange/working-with-ifc/importexport-settings/#1117886</LINK_TEXT>

Actually, I have not worked with these options so I don't know the exact result they produce.

2D tags are the top of the iceberg...

What I really need is the grids and levels.
The rooms would be useful too, but they are not necessary. (not room tags, but the "spaces" like this: <S></S>http://goo.gl/ve2OLY<E></E>

<S></S>Can you suggest settings for the architect?<E></E>

I spent numerous days looking for a correct workflow to export Archicad IFC fits Revit, but i found nothing useful..

2 years ago i received a better Archicad IFC modell, where the grids and levels were correct, but now i'm working with a different firm.

Is the 'ARCHICAD Connection Add-in' installed on the Revit machine?

I thought it was meant to improve the quality of IFC exchange between the two softwares -

<S></S><LINK_TEXT text="http://www.graphisoft.com/downloads/int ... ility.html">http://www.graphisoft.com/downloads/interoperability.html</LINK_TEXT><E></E>

Maybe the IFC model from 2 years ago was saved using the add-on?

It would probably be beneficial to whoever is saving those IFC files from ARCHICAD to read this page:

<LINK_TEXT text="http://helpcenter.graphisoft.com/guides ... -settings/">http://helpcenter.graphisoft.com/guides/archicad-19-int-reference-guide/interoperability-2/file-handling-and-exchange/working-with-ifc/importexport-settings/</LINK_TEXT>#

especially the part about exporting 2D elements:

•	Convert IFC Annotations and ArchiCAD 2D elements
If you check this box, the export process of the following 2D elements is allowed: Texts, Labels, Fills, Lines, Arcs, Circles, Polylines, Splines and all dimension types.
However, the inclusion of 2D elements in the exported file is also affected by the “Export” option set in the export IFC dialog boxes.
–
If a 3D view is currently active, the 2D elements can be included only if the “Entire project” option is used.
–
If a Floor Plan is active, the “Visible” option means only the visible 2D elements will be saved, and “Selected elements only” means that only the selected 2D elements will be saved...
...Dimensions will be exploded into lines and texts, since the IFC 2×3 standard documentation does not include a dimension element.

So I think he might not export it in a way that would include the 2D in the resulting IFC.

And please do not double post - especially in another post that again has nothing to do with your problem.
Please create a new post.
