I have a trash layer where I keep things I might need later and don't yet want to delete from the model. When trying to schedule the surface area of stone it keeps including areas from my trash layer yet I have the schedule set to exclude this layer. If I delete the items from the trash layer then my schedule is correct

Why is this happening?

Set your brackets accordingly.
As a rule of thumb: As soon you use an "OR" connection in your criteria YOU NEED to set brackets, otherwise your results will always be skewed.

As runexl suggested, your 3 composites need to be in brackets otherwise any element that meets the condition of the last 2 ORs will be included (first conditions OR any of the last ones).

Currently you are finding elements that meet these 3 criteria ... All Types and layer is not trash and composite is manufactured stone 1/2 ply OR any Composite that is 3" manufactured stone OR any composite that is gable end wall stone.
