Autocad 2008 was a new file format and AC11 can't open it. I think AC11 came out first, so it's not really a surprise.

<T>Has anyone been able to open or x-ref AutoCAD 2008 files in AC11? We have tried numerous .DWG files with nothing but crashes!</T>

ArchiCAD V 11 cannot open AutoCAD 2008 files, you can download the free DWG converter from here and save the files as a previous version file and then you can import them into ArchiCAD.
That's odd. AutoCAD 2008 is supposed to be using the 2007 engine which is listed in the translator dialog.

Oh well, another reason to have to keep an updated copy of AutoCAD around and help feed the 800 lb. gorilla known as Autodesk.

Not really ...

DWG True Convert - supplied for free by Autodesk - will convert anything down. And you can view it with DWG True view. Both Windows ...

And, Intellicad or some of its clones are much cheaper and as good for fast checking (again, Windows only - but that should not be a problem on an Intel Mac?)
