Maybe you should ask him to do this for you?
Maybe name the layers in a dua format?

Babelfish didn't have Polish so I used russian, in case anyone notices.

<T>DESPERATE!
I am collaborating on a project with a Polish architect working in Archicad 7 while I am on version 9. All the drawings now have the Polish names for "layers", materials, etc.
How do I convert back to English????</T>

If you have a copy of your original file, and you know that the Layers/Matererials/etc. are just renamed, you could use "Attribute Manager" to overwrite the Polish names with your original file attributes.

I don't know how feasible this is because I don't know how attributes of polish AC7 and English AC9 are different, but is worth a try.
Create a new Project in ArchiCAD 9, and merge the polish AC7 file into it.
ArchiCAD refers to attributes by their index number, not by their name, so it might work, although I think you will still have a lot of adjusting left after doing this.

Many thanks - this seems to be the most painless option and seems to be working out.
