In AC11 goto: File > Save as...

and pick ArchiCAD 10 in the popup for file types.

To save back to AC9 you will have to do the same thing again in AC10. ArchiCAD 11 does not save to AC9 format. Avoid going back to 9 if at all possible. Since that also means going back PlotMaker, I expect that it will bring a whole s___load of problems, and probably cost more time than the price of the upgrade.

tried this, but i need it as a .pla file to send to consultant and that doesn't seem like it's going to happen for me.

I would prefer never to have to go from one version to another, the problem is that we did upgrade to 11 and the consultant has not. So, without me having access V.10 on my computer and and them having access to v.11, does anyone see any other way out of this?

Contact your reseller. They should be able to provide you with a copy of AC10.
