topic Importing Microstation 8.1 files in Collaboration with other software

<T>Our dealer tells us that Archicad will not be able to import the new Microstation 8 file format until the next version of Archicad.

Aside from buying a $3-4000 program just for translations, has anyone else out there had to deal with this issue?</T>

Archicad's Microstation import/export has never been very useful other than for quick review of simple files.

But since both programs have very good Autocad dwg translators, with numerous configuration options, the solution has been and I gather still is to export to dwg from Microstation and then import that into Archicad. You can create configurations that will cover most needs, the only one lacking is to import 3D with layers. To do that, you'll need to import each layer separately as an Archicad object.

Regards,
Ask the Microstation user to make a DWG-file. That should work best.

Or (if you are adventurous) if they use Bentley Architecture, they might be able to provide you with an IFC-file.
