Open the 3D dwg in Sketchup.

Save it as SKP.

Open it in Archicad. Be prepared for a lot of cleanup.

AFAIK AutoCAD does not have the IFC option? If it did, you could sabe out IFC and open it in ArchiCAD.

Can you open AutoCAD 3D in Revit? Its IFC can be sent to Archicad, no problem.

In general, 3D DWG you can open ONLY as an object. Not as a model that is editable afterwards.

Good luck.

<T>Im trying to open a dxf file containing 3D Volumes (orignally created in Autocad) with Archicad 9, but when i open the file it appears as lines on plan and has no 3D volumes. Is there a different file format I can save it as in Autocad which will work in ArchiCad?

Any suggestions would be appreciated
Or try to open the DXF file as a Library Object. It will preserve the 3D portion then.

Also, the volumes should not be solids.

There is a round trip through SketchUp, though ...

Hi Dave!

Did you solve this problem with 3d dxf. I too have a similar problem. I have a 3d dwg which I wish to open (in archicad 10) and then be able to edit.
I have tried opening, merging with 3D content, importing blocks, and opening 3D objects but none with the result I wish.
I could not merge a dwg in the 3D window.
As a single 3D object, I cannot keep working on the model.

Does anyone know how?
