I thought all colors would translate to the corresponding layer. What am I doing wrong? This is a large project with several consultants who will be using the ArchiCAD plans as base drawings which will be updated several more times.

Are you sure that the colors aren't set to "bylayer", hence they don't 'own' a particular color but inherit the color from the layer they sit on?

Translate ArchiCAD Pens to Autocad Layer

<T>In Publisher, I have set up a translator using Layers: Pen->layer conversion so that our ArchiCAD pens create layers by color. Under Methods: Create Layers according to Pencolor Numbers is selected. When the dwg is opened in Autocad 2000, the colors appear correct, but there are problems with composite walls and other ArchiCAD objects drawn with more than one color. For example, our composite walls are drawn in #7 with #13 (greyscale) poche. #7 should translate to the consultant's layer "Color 16"; #13 should be in layer "Color 253" but although it appears correct on screen, when selected it is in layer "Color 16" with the walls.

Also, when opened in Autocad, the properties show that all the colors are white, even though they appear correct.

I thought all colors would translate to the corresponding layer. What am I doing wrong? This is a large project with several consultants who will be using the ArchiCAD plans as base drawings which will be updated several more times.</T>

Stefan,

Under Pens and Colors: Methods, the box "Set all Elements' Colors to "BYLAYER" is not selected.

I will not be dealing with import, so I left all those boxes unchecked.

Thanks for any help on this. I would love to get this issue resolved since, in the past, we just gave up and sent the consultant a tif to underlay to maintain control of the line weights.
