Exporting dwg files from plotmaker

When converting a plotmaker layout into a dwg file a new archicad paper space file is created. When in autocad you go into model space you will find the whole floor layout and not only the bit that you were showing in your layout. That makes very heavy dwg files and as well it will show bits and pieces of your drawing that you might not wish to export.

Is there a way to set the convertor so that it saves only the piece of file that is actually cropped in the layout?

unfortunately not at the moment. it's on the wish list if i recall correctly, and something that graphisoft have needed to sort out for some time.

Have you tried using the new (-1) masking fill?Its syymbol looks like a TV and it is after the Ø fill, the fery last one. It is supposed to do just what you want, mask out the areas you do not want to convert to dwg.

Could you let us know how it worked for you?

Not quite. The masking fill will create a "wipeout" in AutoCAD. If the wipeout is erased, all of the geometry that was behind the wipeout is revealed. The geometry is still being converted, it's just hidden behind the wipeout.

Hmm...at ACUWest when I discussed the use of this fill with Graphisoft's people, they said that it was developed to mask out areas you did not want to send to consultants in dwgs'. It may have just been my interpretation that use of the fill did not send covered areas. The feedback I received from consultants was that it was working i.e. they only saw the area not masked by this fill. I've never heard of the term 'wipeout" being used other than in surfing or that white goop for covering typing errors. It sounds like the latter use still applies; the wrong letter(s) are still there, just covered.

Is there a chance it should erase when converting to DWG or is this how graphisoft intended it to function?

Good question. I would prefer that it eliminate the geometry it is masking, but that just doesn't seem to be the case. Any thoughts Djordje?

FYI: I'm going from ArchiCAD 8.1 R2C(2284) to Architectual Desktop 3.3

Not as yet, although I am nearing the final (whatever that might mean) setup for the conversion in the office ... Will report.

I realise this is an old topic, but I had a reason to look it up... I have now tested with with V9... it works beaaautifully...
