You cannot have a zone that will automatically pick up the parameters of its boundary walls, slabs, ceilings. But, as you say, you can store the schedule information in the listing parameters and schedule that.

In these forums, you can search for other posts that address the technique required with the interactive scheduler by searching for 'additional parameters'.

Basically, every parameter of every library part can be scheduled. The listing parameters are like any other param.

In the Fields tab of the I.S. for your zone schedule, select Additional Parameters, show "All Types by Subtype", browse to General GDL Object > Drawing Symbol > Zone Stamp and finally select the stamp you are using.

For example, if you are using Zone Identifier, you will find the parameters Wall Finish/E, /N, /S, and /W as well as a variety of User Defined fields - all of which can be used to store the info for the zone and create the schedule.

If all you want is finishes (all entered manually - simply stored in the database for each zone), that should be fine. If you want to know a total of areas using a particular finish in order to make a cost or material estimate, this method won't do the trick.

If instead you want to automatically pick up the finish (as determined by the applied material name) of each surface, things are easy until you want these finishes by-zone. For example, if you create a IS schedule based on Walls, you can pick up one of the zone names and numbers of the (possibly many) zones that are touching the reference line ... but you can't pick up the zone name(s) for the non-reference line side.

I haven't thought about this much, but I think that only a custom API-based add-on can do an automatic by-zone surface take-off. Don't know of one out there.

(SQL can determine all zones that the wall is in - rather than just one as in the IS, but cannot report which zone is on which side (finish) of the wall.)

I've never had to generate a finish schedule. Hopefully, someone here who has done so may have some more ideas for you. <E>😉</E>
Hallo, I do room schedule by Interactive Schedule. I'm from Czech republic so I use zone stamp modified for czech so I don't know what do you want to have in your schedule.
There is a radio button in the Model Tab of the Zone Tool Window that one can turn on so that the Zone inherits the boundary wall and trimming edge materials.

I would have thought that this then would logically mean that a list of the inherited materials can be listed in the IS. Unfortunately this is not the case.
Well there a couple ways that I have been working on to create a finish schedule, one is to use the IS. When setting up the list set it to use a label abc Element ID, set the value to the name of the room. Then use the wall, ceiling and/or floor accessory tool and place them in the drawing with zone accessories. Then make sure the accessories have all ID the same as the name of the room or zone. Then make the list with the parameters that you want. Using the is set up all the fileds you need to create the lists.

I hope this makes sense, because I am still working out the process.

Well that is kind of what I am trying to do But I am trying to create a list for all elements like in the bathroom, there all the fixtures and so forth, but we want to be able to take a list to the clients with all the basics of what everything is. For example, we want to have a sink with style, color, shape, manufacturer, finish..... I know that I can put all that information in a list but I was trying to set a whole list so I can keep using in new projects and not need to redo it... I guess I can just create each list and put them in excel. then have the client and designer fill it out....

Thanks for your help!

Vincon2,
I've slept a little since I gave up on the interactive schedules. Basically, you can't access additional parameters from different element types in the same schedule. I found this out when I tried to create a Light & Vent schedule trying to report the needed info from zones, wdw, and doors all in the same schedule. There might be a better explanation of this in one of my previous posts regarding the issue.

You have another post in this forum about a "zone name" problem not showing up on different element types...I think that issue is a similar problem to this one.

Bottomline...until Graphisoft fixes, updates, and/or makes the Interactive Scheduler more useable/functional, I wouldn't waste too much time trying to force it to work.

Beyond basic schedules, the Interactive Scheduler is useless until Graphisoft gives it a little more attention (V10 hmmm???) and Karl's book is available.
The book still exists only in his head. Last I spoke to him, he had not written much and was not entirely sure it would happen. He may correct me on that, though.

Personally, I would really like it if he did write one!

A few months or so ago Karl mentioned that he would be writing a book about the misc. calculation features of ArchiCAD. I haven't much more about it....so I don't know when or if it will be available. Maybe Karl will give us an update on the book status.

You seem to be enjoy some relative success with the I.S. ....care to share more about what you've managed to set up? There are so few working examples out there anything would be interesting to see.
You can see a post I made at:

<LINK_TEXT text="http://archicad-talk.graphisoft.com/vie ... ght=#54898">http://archicad-talk.graphisoft.com/viewtopic.php?p=54898&highlight=#54898</LINK_TEXT>

The schedules are working well, but require strict layer control and drawing rules as well as an extensive template that must be religiously adhered to.

My two biggest complaints are:

1. The schedules that are placed do not update automatically. This is a HUGE, HUGE, HUGE flaw and my #1 disappointment with Archicad. Ideally I should be able to place my schedules in my drawing and then choose to either manually update them individually or do a last minute batch update (like plotmaker) before I do my final print sets.

2. The second complaint is that walls, roofs, meshes and slabs cannot pick up the zone names, etc. This limits my scheduling capabilities but I have worked around that by using objects for things I want to show on my schedule with a corresponding zone name. For example, I originally created a balcony railing by using the wall tool to represent my spindles. When I discovered that the walls wouldn't pick up the zone name, I replaced all the spindles with a custom made object I made. Not a big time difference if I know to do it that way in the first place.

As we have discussed in the past, I have someone who I hope will be able to extract the data directly from my pln file and auto populate my custom estimating program he created. This will require further rigid drawing rules, but if followed, my hope is that all I have to do is open up a new estimate, reference a particular job pln file and the estimating program will automatically extract and populate my various estimate categories and instantly create an accurate estimate with little to no tweaking required by me or anyone on my staff.

I think this is do-able, I just don't know how much time it’s going to take to get there. I’ll let you know when and if we pull this off.

What Tom said.

I ran into some frustrations that I'd rather not detail here and, yeah, at this point am not sure that I'll do the book.
