Yep.

1) Open the 3D window
2) File > Save as...
3) Select 3DS as the output format.

You might want to use the File Linking option, to update the original geometry after the export and have it automatically reflected in 3ds max/VIZ.
This works when you mainly prepare it to be structured according to layers.

This is also how Revit files are linked to VIZ or 3ds max: as DWG documents!

I know this is an older post, but...useless, did you ever get the model into max? I am very interested in rendering in 3d studio but cannot get it to work very well?

This is indeed an older post. And if I'm not mistaken, Revit models are now transferred to 3ds Max using the FBX format (originally from Kaydara FilmBox, which, in the form of MotionBuilder was later sold to Alias, which was later sold to Autodesk).

hi!

i think the dwg export is broken, at least for me. i gives me, every time i try it and with every method i know, for example walls which all center around the origin instead of the real geometry exported from archicad which is a pain! so there is no other way as to use the good old 3ds file format for export which by the way also remembers the material but has otherwise no layers and no linking capabilities...

anyone else experiencing the same dwg problems as me?

with best regards
