topic Hardware - Slow ArchiCAD use - advice needed in Installation & update

<T>Hi all, I have listed my PC spec below for comment. The reason for posting it is because it seems to be using the ArchiCAD app slowly. The project I am working on is rather large, with 6 buildings all separately linked into 1 layout book, the status bar tells me I have approx 1.2gb ram, but this still does not make my navigation of drawings any quicker. Whenever I insert text, there is a delay of approx 10 secs before I can edit the text, and this is multiplied when inserting view sets. I am in the process of speccing a new machine, but as with most businesses the old ones are passed down, and I want to make sure that my old comp can be used successfully - so any upgrade tips would be useful.

Spec
Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 (build 2600)
3.40 gigahertz Intel Pentium 4
16 kilobyte primary memory cache
1024 kilobyte secondary memory cache
240.04 Gigabytes Usable Hard Drive Capacity
Bus Clock: 800 megahertz
2048 Megabytes Installed Memory (4 x 512)
NVIDIA Quadro FX 3400
20.2" HP monitor
Graphisoft R&D - ArchiCAD Version 10.0.0 R1

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Hi

Sorry, I can't help you but experience the same problem with the following config:

Processor AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3000+, overclocked 10%
Memory (RAM) 2,00 GB
Graphic FireGL V3100
Windows Vista Bus 64-BIT
ArchiCad Build 1010

Sometimes it last several minutes for it to update a drawing in the Layout book.
Multiprocessor and 64-bit support would be good.
